Aww i thought i read this somewhere, maybe im wrong...
Every sphere .51a server i played, was set up, so when you GM'ed. Spirit Speak..
It was automatically enabled...
thus not having to click spirit speak button to head a ghost talking...
but only when you were 100.0
sounds like a good idea? or am i wrong... gotta have some incentive for gming it lol.
If you like any of these and have tubs that you don't like\already have yourself, post it's code down here;p
http://oi41.tinypic.com/2hgtr4i.jpg
Was talking to a guy, then accidently clicked on IGNORE instead of reply.
and i got a message saying,
you are now ignoring, so and so..
But every time i try and go back to reading his message he sent me.. i can't click REPLY..
How do i unignore someone?
I have been meaning to point this out for a long time... so here goes:
As an IN1 vet, playing from VERY early on, one of the first things that I noticed is how nearly USELESS Archery is in pvp on this server. Here is how it was on IN1:
- Archery's first shot was instant.
- The swing time on Archery would go down while moving
- Archery did LOTS of damage to people not wearing armor/low AR
This is how Archery is now:
- Archery's first shot requires the swing timer to be reached before the first shot is taken
- After movement, the swing timer must be reached again once standing still to take another shot
- Archery does do more damage to naked/low AR folks, but it isnt even a blip on the radar when compared to the revised damage of Explosion and Energy Bolt
Here are the reasons why I think changes (back to the IN1 state) to Archery would help in pvp and the server in general:
- Archery could be the incentive for players to wear more armor due to the sheer amount of damage it would do to low AR/naked folks.
- Archery being used more often and being viable in PvP would make the market for bows, arrows, and the like to be more profitable.
- Archery being viable as a main source of damage in PvP would lead to different playstyles, including stat choices which currently arnt existent in PvP (you just want the most Mana and Health you can get)
- Archery being viable as a main source of damage could lead to new Role Play themes and guilds, perhaps some that dont allow the use of spells like FS,EB,Explo. I remember on IN1 there was an a guild (Elven... which I actually ran for a while) that could only use Archery for attacking, and magery was only allowed for utility purposes. We were quite successful simply because four players with Dexer stats and Vanq bows/Xbows/Hxbows could dominate single targets if they weren't wearing armor, and it was faster damage than FS spam on the first shot.
- Archery will actually be a skill that gets real use in the game.
Without something like the "Fiery Bow of Death" in the game (an insanely overpowered bow from IN1), I think these changes to Archery would be far from imbalanced. There are a few cons of course. Here are a few:
1: PvP may end up costing more due to needing arrows and a bow if you plan to use Archery in your PvP build.
2: Folks may start running around naked with Elven Bows instead of FS scrolls (as the vogue is right now).
3: It may lead to people getting mad if they instant die from 5-6 people focus firing Hxbow at a single target.
My counterpoints to those three are:
1: If you are using a build where Archery is viable, you would need max dex and str. This means you will need to spend far less money on regs, as you wont be using them as much. So the cost may even out.
2: If people are running around naked, they should most always get destroyed by high AR folks anyway, as it is now.
3: You already instantly die to 5-6 people FS scrolling you, so this is just a fact of life in UO that we have to accept. Further, there is a luck factor involved in Archery. All 6 of those Archers could very well miss, while its 100% certain that every FS will connect since spells do not have a chance to miss or fizzle when you cast from a scroll.
So that is my argument. I think these changes would be extremely healthy for the server. In fact, after a day or two of discussion in this thread, I would love to see a vote for implementation to take place. These changes would solve SO many problems people are having right now... Everything from the viability of armor and the dominance of magery, to the economics behind the Fletching skill and viability of the Archery skill in PvP.
Thanks for your time and I hope we get some good discussion, or even simply saying "This is a great idea" or "I dont like it, here is why" or some added ideas to what I posted. I simply want Archery to be on par to what is was on IN1. It was my favorite skill and play style (based on ambushing and positioning more than mana dumping and chasing).
Cheers,
Siren
So I was thinking of getting sTarted here and had a couple questions. How's the skillgain here? How's the community is it a good number online? How's the pvp and is there a good bit of it?
I really like the fizzle pvp arena and the fact that the shard is testing it. I'm afraid though that it will never be fully implemented cause of the poll being held here on the forum. Somehow the world is upside down and people actually prefer this pvp over fizzle pvp. I'm not sure if they never tried it, or if they suck at it but that doesn't really matter either.
I've seen a lot of people around the shard and forum who are looking for fizzle pvp and I was hoping that some of them by now found a proper uo shard that has everything in-uo has but with the superior kind of pvp. Then all the whining people here on the forum asking for fizzle pvp can all migrate there and be awesome together.
Win win for everyone!
So where do we go?
I'm quoting Loki from a different thread, not wanting to derail it any further. There has been a lot of talk from staff recently about what they're thinking of doing for armour, and I don't know if what is being hinted at is that great an idea.
Loki Wrote:Raz, in reply to your earlier post you can expect significant changes to metal armours soon as well. We want more armour use and armour trading in the economy, part of that is reducing the top end gear a little and making it cheaper and easier to get. Note, before anyone gets upset, this does not mean top end gear will suck, the best gear will always be the best gear and it will always give some (reasonable) advantages.
So we aren't just going after ruining leather for no reason ya see...
By high armour, do you mean the top 3? Top 6? Top 9? As someone who is selling a lot of armour people are buying the low stuff, a few buy the mid and you get the odd sale of the really top stuff. To break it up, I'd say Old Copper -> Bloodrock is low (2k-10k), Aqua -> Blackrock is mid (15k-50k), and Oceanic+ is high(75k-400k).
I wouldn't touch the high stuff, as much sells of that as you see mined up from the ground at the current price points.
The low stuff you could probably remove a couple of ingots types, mainly the duplicate AR value ingots, e.g. silver/verite, amethyst/gold, rose/something else.
What needs 'fixing' is the medium ingots, but that's not a supply thing. I (I am speaking as a semi-recently gm'd blacksmith who mined his ingots) have more than enough supply of the Aqua -> Blackrock (7k aqua + 16 sets available to 1k Blackrock + 16 sets available) and people aren't buying them, or barely.
Prices are already so low that if I dropped the mid any further nobody would buy the lower end stuff. The high end stuff I'm happy with, you go for the long sale on them at a high price, you shouldn't expect to see everyone running around in daemon steel plus..
But the mid, there is no reason to buy the mid. I've held off pricing the mid at the supply I have because it will destroy the market for low, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who could do that. To clarify, if I priced mid at the supply I have, it would be 8k~ for a full suit of Mytheril. At that point, why would anyone even bother buying anything lower, especially when people are making so much money from hunting.
So I think armours might need reworking more than the tweaking suggested. Different bonuses, or maybe change how AR works so that 1-2 points difference actually matters. You could instead reduce the amount of ingot types to shorten the ranges, as seems to be the plan, but unless you drop it to like 7 or 8 types, you aren't going to solve the problem. And if you drop rarity of the top even with a smaller range it'll just be the same problem.
If you increase supply of higher end you'll just end up with everyone in the top 3 armours, and no market for the smaller stuff. If that's your goal, then ok, fine. But I lament turning blacksmithing and mining into professions which produce disposable goods.
EDIT: Also Loki, I used your quote cos it had all the relevant info in it but it is more representative of all the info we seem to be getting from staff than targeted at you.
EDIT2: Some clarifications.
I'm not sure if this is a great idea or a terrible one. You could allow guilds to purchase a mercenary. One thing this would do is make it so members trained at their guild houses thus creating more interaction and camaraderie with guild mates. I remember back before there were mercs when i played UO we would spar each other at our guild houses. It was during those times you would get to know your guild mates. Just seeing other guild mates around sparring and training up skills raised morale and made it seem like the guild was active.
One thing i foresee with having the merc camp is that guild houses/compounds no longer will be training areas for combat skills and thus they won't be as lively with members interacting.
