Leather = +med
#37

Some kind of active or passive med buff is long overdue. Wether it be by leather armor, AR based or just passive.

Honestly, I never wear high end expensive armor, whats the point? Only real time you seem to need it is in tourneys....which are supplied. Cant be bothered to drop 25-30k+ on a suit only to get 5v1 ganked or client crashed, die and lose it.....when I can just run around naked or in regular plate and be just as effective.

It's like a forced gold/time sink....these 'encouragements' to get magical gear etc. What would the cons be of adding the med bonus (maybe just passively regardless of armor type/rating? Is there some magical rule that states uo must be a slow paced game? Afraid mana pots wont sell as good? Make mana pots give +10 more mana when drank.....mostly everyone is gm alch or will be soon anyways. -.-

Habibi, I don't want to create a situation where money gives players the means to massively outgun poorer or newer players, that's the flaw that killed the IN1 pvp system, so that kind of suggestion (i.e. money = big buffs with no drawbacks) isn't one I'd be in favour of.

Eru, I too would prefer a blanket solution, but I just don't know what it is yet. But for the record it's easy to set special stats in a script and introduce/remove them by version control. That doesn't mean it's worth doing of course, just that it is something we are able to do.

Kennedy, I'll be looking at mana management/spell casting as it relates to PvP soon, but buffing mana pots further than they already are in addition to improvements in mana regeneration would be simply too powerful, players would never run out of mana even if they were nuking like crazy. I don't like to speak for Taran but I'm 100% sure he wouldn't be in favour of that either. We're hoping some of our current changes/future changes will make the use of armour more economically viable. I'm also thinking of ways to make higher AR useful but not overpowering, it's a tough balance though.

Yeah, that would make it easy to remove them after putting them in, but it's one more thing to consider for new scripts, plus tweaking them can be a pain in the ass unless you use regex/replacement tools which I don't trust. Then, when you add a new armor, you have to specifically add the new stats to it. Sure it's doable, but it's a pain in the ass compared to something broader.

In my opnion, noone used leather anyway.. even if it had better ar! Noone uses high end armors for hunting... so why bothering to lower leather ar and not doing anything about it?! really... before the nerf the best leather had to offer was exceptional barbed studded leather which had 52 ar! and it was extremely hard to make one since you would need around 200 or more barbed leather to make them... the studded armor has a 17% exceptional chance.. By nerfing leather you wont make people buy plate... and you complain about the plate market? what about the leather market now? all leather i gather from dragons i will turn into silver now.. and those magical leather? gotta be kidding about them...
I dont care to use plate.. but this way you are only taking a specific kind of armor(leather) out of use... even though i thought it was more stylish than plate... i will stick to plate, as i said before its much cheaper since you have 44 ar with ice anyway...(same ar from exceptional barbed leather).

Hang on a minute, how much was AR dropped for leather armors? I only meant to drop it 3 AR points for barbed, 2 for horned and 1 for spined.
The way you're talking it sounds like it was dropped like 10 points :O
#42

Also, we are not quite finished with armors etc. There are more changes to come like increasing the chance to craft exceptional armor and possibly removing a few ores and increasing the chance to mine other ones.
#43

exceptional barbed leather was reduced 6 points.
exceptional barbed studded was reduced 3 if im not wrong.. but studded is not worth it! since you need tons of barbed leather to craft an exceptional full set due to the low chance on crafting them...
#44

Hrm ok I'll have to fix that for next restart then, which will probably happen on Sunday. I'll look into the studded success chance as well.

Raz, in reply to your earlier post you can expect significant changes to metal armours soon as well. We want more armour use and armour trading in the economy, part of that is reducing the top end gear a little and making it cheaper and easier to get. Note, before anyone gets upset, this does not mean top end gear will suck, the best gear will always be the best gear and it will always give some (reasonable) advantages.

So we aren't just going after ruining leather for no reason ya see...
#46

With 6 points it's ruined, but with a 3 point decrease for barbed I wouldn't go so far as saying it's ruined.
#47

Yep, agreed, didn't mean to imply otherwise!

by reducing the top you mean reducing its ar? and making it cheaper and easier means increasing top end ingots mining success?
dont know if i misunderstood =x
