Personally I think this would be a great way to bring fun back to the shard because for me (as someone who has been here longer than most) its got REAL dull lately. All the aspects of the game that I loved and kept me coming back are practically gone.
We used to have events all the time where we would win nickles which would fund my tub addiction. Winning events and scoring tubs was the funnest thing for me... Now, as far as I can tell, unless you're great at pvp these two aspects of the game are almost completely gone.
The next biggest part of the game for me was taming which has become increasingly competitive due to the increase of players... I thought we would increase the amount of spawns on the server to compensate for all the tamer action but instead the reverse happened some rides have been removed and the spawn rates have been tuned down and so as a result overall taming is way less exciting than it used to be.
The only thing I see really being catered to now is pvp (actually thats not true, recently there was an increase in chance to mine high end ore, yay mining! pfft).
Since pvp is such a focal point now why not make it so more people can participate?
Personally I already spend much less time playing IN than I used to because of the reasons above and I was hoping that something like this would come to fruition so that I could get back into the game...

At this point I would really just rather not see more locations that take away from "real world encounters". That's really my argument. The suggestion would benefit a lot of players myself included, but seriously there is nothing stopping anyone from getting resources to practice PvP with other people who want to PvP. Just find people who are willing to duel with you without looting each other, they are around. I see quite a few in this thread ;p

I'm not horribly opposed to the idea, but I do think there are better ways to reach the same goal. Have an event that runs every 48 hours that allows you to duel anyone else there with their consent, supplied. Maybe the event could be a 1 hour event that is at the same time every other day? We could even all vote on a time or times that best match everyone's schedule.

Lamby we still have other events every now and then where you can win nickels. We could always get better at hosting more of those events though.

After next restart there will be a pretty big change to mount spawns where more mounts will be added to the world. We want to make some mounts pretty common so players actually use them which means that some spawns will be pretty easily accessible. We will keep the current difficult spawn locations but the mounts may change.

Having a practice duel arena that's open during certain periods of the day could work. But as Habibi said, it's pretty easy to find someone to train with if you just look around.

Just go to the basment of the Casion, there you can duel for 1000 gold, it´s a no loot fight, but you use your own resources.
It should be preaty easy to find some one to pratice with down there.

1,000 gold a duel. If you want to last more than 15 seconds you need 3 T manas, 3 Ghs, 3 GH scrolls, 5 FS scrolls, 5 lightning scrolls, 3 reflect scrolls, a good set of armor and a good weapon. To compete you need what, a 50k set of armor and a 35k weapon?

As a new player I have tried getting practice at the 1k arena. Know what happens to a new player with crappy weapon and armor in a self supplied duel? About the only practice he gets is practicing getting owned and losing money he don't have.

You're right Habbi- Never want to take away from world PvP so my original suggestion of limitless arena time wasn't very well thought through. I think limit 5 a day wouldn't have much of an impact on world PvP.
#56

I don't think 5 duels a day would have a huge impact on world PvP either but if it were added, I can assure you that you would see even less action than you do now. Aside from that, please think about the following concept:
If you give a mouse a cookie, he'll for a glass of milk.

Staff have added duel pits against their original plans not to, because players wanted them. Staff localized duel pits into the casino, because players wanted it. Staff has changed A LOT of things here, because players wanted them to.
This has created a big problem... Now there are a bunch of people who blast the forums with their opinions on what needs to be changed, and how they want things to work on this shard, EXPECTING staff to change it. When it doesn't get changed promptly, people *****. When it doesn't get changed at all, people ***** even more. In some cases, when people don't get their way, they blame the staff for playing favorites and being corrupt. It's ****ing annoying! It's a trend that you simply can't deny, if you've been here for more than 4 months then chances are you know exactly what I'm talking about.
There has been a terrible shift in the environment of this server, and quite honestly I don't like it. It makes the game not fun. It has turned a project that many of us have WORKED on and invested time and MONEY on into something which many of us "veterans" are almost ashamed to be a part of.

edit: People want to say "there's no action here anymore blah blah", there's a reason for it. It's because poisonous gameplay style (and personalities for that matter) are beginning to damage this shard. You can argue against that all you want, but it's the truth.

Honestly I don't see why your so against it habibi, it encourages players to play gank and learn the style in these duels/areas we had it on IN-X it makes players active it's only a plus to the shard It doesn't harm the shard if it's monitored and only up a certain amount of time per day. If by any means you think you've worked hard to become a good PvPer and are reluctant to this for that reason I can tell you right now you are definitely not good at PvP and you yourself should join these types of events to get better. You your self barley use the duelstones and when you do you like to duel for 1k.. I'm not saying this to be a dick I'm saying it because it's the truth even I can use them to get better.
#58

Dude... Please save it. When I have the time to actually sit down and play the game I don't do anything anymore other than fight. I'm no better of a "PvP'er" than when I joined here... I was actually a lot better when I first joined here I'm sure, considering I had just come from The Abyss after 6 years on and off. It turned into a bad shard slowly over time, so I left. If you think you know good players or think that you are a good player, I suggest you take a trip to Moscow sometime and talk to the young guys who play UO at the cafe, (although I'm not sure how popular that is anymore considering Moore's law, PC's are cheap,) there you will find a room full of people who are better at UO than you are.

edit: If you make a legitimate argument besides a one line "it encourages players to play gank and learn the style in these duels/areas we had it on IN-X it makes players active it's only a plus to the shard It doesn't harm the shard if it's monitored and only up a certain amount of time per day" then perhaps what you say would have some merit and I could explain to you why it's not a good idea.

"it encourages players to play gank and learn the style"
It encourages people to fight for no resource cost whenever they can. It benefits everyone differently, some people in a good way but most in a negative way. Having a bunch of automated PvP events every day, a casino with duel stones, and another static place to duel SUPPLIED, 5 TIMES A DAY, FOR EVERY PLAYER sounds like a good idea to you? Please, show me some reasons why this is a good idea besides speculation:

"it encourages players to play gank and learn the style"
That is an assumption, broh. For all you know it could have the complete opposite effect. There is really no way to predict the impact that it will cause on people's PvP habits, you can merely speculate.

I foresee you saying this:
"Oh, but shouldn't we test it then to see who is right?"
No, we shouldn't, because if you give a mouse a cookie not only will he ask for a glass of milk but he will ***** if you stop giving him cookies.

There's a difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice, dueling 5 times a day just so people get the hang of the PvP isn't a bad idea your not feeding anyone anything. it's a limited time monitored by a GM. All there is now is automated events so there really is no difference having this if it's going to benefit for the good of the shard. It doesn't only encourage people to PvP/Gank It encourages them to be active and actually play instead of macroing all the damn time.

Events need to be made more often rather than just automated stuff yes I agree, this wont hurt anyone though far from it.

Btw you've said that milk and cookies saying like 5 times now you may wanna change it up

"you yourself should join these types of events to get better."
"There's a difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice"

Wait so... You told me to use it at first, now using it is abuse? Tell me, with this system, what exactly IS the "difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice"? Because I sure as hell don't see one, and that is half of the entirety of my argument to keep this out of the shard. If you read what was posted a few pages ago, you'd see that I agree with having an hour or so event that runs every 48 hours, so once every two days, where people can freely duel whoever they'd like supplied. There is no reward, since the reward is that you are getting the practice (AKA why this idea is floating around in the first place).

edit: No need to use another analogy, that one suits your actions just fine. If there's a better one out there, please let me know!
