Because they would just get cleaned out immediately by PKs. The cave is guarded partly so you can mine without getting killed. A mine right by a town makes sense to be guarded right?

not hard to find someone at sea?! really?! did you check to see how big the sea is?! i dont see anyone wasting their time trying to find someone at the sea only to kill that person!
and afk macroing is allowed, its not allowed only to gather resources! and that is also important to keep economy good!! dont try to make easy to gm anything like bs that requires ingots to see the economy fuked up later.
then we see a lot of people crying because none buys anything from their vendors and a lot of players quiting because of that!
if you're not new to uo you know thats what happens when gming crafting skills is easy...

well it is not normal to have that cave guarded.

Well , keeping the economy safe is important for a servers lifespan , i have no objection about the rule itself.
And when i think about it , giving everyone access to safely afk macro everything (even if its just skillgain) will result in 90%of the active players being able to mine highest value ores...
I just think its fine as it is.

I think I tend to agree somewhat with BenSa. I think it is important that newbie miners have somewhere to safely mine but in my opinion it would be better if a guarded mine didn't spawn the highest ores.

I think that the biggest problem with the guarded mine is that it's too small for more than 2-3 miners to be there. I've seen it when it has like 10 in there and there's no ore to be had. Your skill will go up super slowly, you'll hardly get any ore, and you'll end up wasting a lot of time. I tried it out on my Mortal to test it out and it's suuuper slow. If you go find a mine that noone else uses that PKs aren't checking on, you skill up super fast and get TONS more ore. I've been mining about 12 hours total so far over the course of about 2 weeks while doing homework and I haven't seen a PK yet.

Eru: I'll fix the no PK situation ASAP. I'm not a good p k but I handle afk ers just fine. On topic there are other guarded mines like icebluedel that have banks just like minoc. I went there te other day and just one guy mining.

The reason why there's the gump and resource gathering is forbidden is to keep a good stable economy. Imagine everyone just afk macroing gathering resources it would destroy everything.. On top of it you have to find that person in the world to kill them so this risk is very little to die over night.

What... who made Icebluedel guarded I wonder? I've spoken to Taran way back, and he told me that his intention was to have only one guarded mine...
I also tried to suggest to him what Rob sais, to make it so nothing higher than lets say Black Diamond respawns there...
I don't like guarded mines myself, but even more I wouldn't like if AFK resource gathering was allowed. Yeah, sure some miners would get killed , but some wouldn't. Not to mention that I'm sure we have plenty of scripters that are capable of making a code with that will resurrect, take regs, recall back in mine and so on. So well, anyhow when this person wakes up he will find out a bunch of new ores. It will be less than usual if he died multiple times, but still...

I like the idea of guarded mines capping out at some level of ore, especially if we're going to have more than one.
