Not necessarily. When you make a custom house the north west (top of screen), north east (right side of screen), and south west (left side of screen) pieces of wall are all 1 piece. I know you're talking about the south east wall piece that's like 2. But I think it's dumb to have to make 2 different types of pieces just for 1 corner. How many of these do you need? 1 per house? May as well just make it all the same piece...

The "bottom" corner that points toward you when you're looking at it looks like two pieces of fence because of the way the items are made to display. Build a custom house and you'll see what I mean. It's not actually "two pieces" of fence, it's just a single piece that blocks that one tile. You could use a one-piece fence and get the same effect, only it would look like there's a hole when there isn't.

The top corner is actually just a single rod that takes up one tile also. The fences LOOK like they come together at a point, but there is a single tile missing. You can find places like this in the world also since it's an easy thing to miss.

And as far as "tough luck" for people whose houses are too close together, I think you missed my point. It's not that they won't be able to have fences, it's that their two house zones would overlap. I could technically be a douchebag and lock down stuff in someone else's house from my own so they can't pick it up anymore, and I'm sure it would cause other problems in the overlap zone.

... just like what I said...

I wasn't talking about overlapping zones IN the house, I actually never thought about that part but I'm sure there's some way to fix it so if the zone would touch a wall or foundation not belonging to the house that zone is for then the zone stops there so it doesnt creep into someone else's house.

I was more so talking about the area around the house. Big deal, so you dont have a fence all around your house because someone else was there first, put the fence infront of your house and move on with your life. Like someone else suggested though, this could just be done so it's only to the front of your house you can put it. Or if it's such an issue, I'm sure GMs could move the houses 3-4 tiles away from each other making 6-8 spaces between houses so the fences don't even touch and there can be fences all the way around both houses.

Another option would be to sell yard space at X Gold per tile up to a certain size. That way you could buy a yard to go with your house, fence it in, and it wouldn't effect neighbors' houses. Smile It might be a pain to rezone it though. Devs might have to make a new GM command to link a yard with a house.

That would be pretty cool too. If you're in a big empty area you could buy up a bunch of land. Only problem is depending on just how much you can buy that sucks for other people who want to buy a house in the relatively same area like close to a mine or hunting spot. With fences at least it only takes away a small area.

If I were to guess at the rules, I'd say there's only a certain amount of space you can buy per house.

I.E: Small house = 2 to 3 tiles on the side, 6 tiles in front. I don't know how you'd handle joining multiple houses or if that's even something the GMs would want to allow. The area wouldn't be able to be recalled into. You'd basically have to recall outside your yard, open your yard gate, then walk up to the house.

100% security can't ever be guaranteed or it kills the spirit of the game, but the yard gate + door works kinda like an air-lock so you have less of a chance of making a mistake and letting someone in your house.

Even though I'm not a big pvper (I'm hardly one at all), I agree that 100% security is no fun.

I think between me and Sindern we found an awesome house feature to add. Here's the summary of what I think we all find would be good:

-You can buy up to a certain amount land around or infront of your house (hopefully it can be decorated and deco's not robbed)
-You can fence the whole area in.
-In the fenced in area you can't mark a rune, and existing runes already marked within that area become blank.
-Fences can be locked but you have to do it.
-Each piece (corner, gate, or side piece) is 250 iron or lumber.
-Have a few designs for iron and a few for lumber: short, medium, and tall iron fence, and short, medium, and tall wood fences; light or dark.

How does this look to everyone? Comments, suggestions, thing that don't look right?

You asked for comments , So I go comment:

I dont like the Idea.
It just gonna fill the world with fences all around, someone gonna abuse it.
And its useless to my point of view.

Wanna A fenced house? Buy a 18x18 custom, build a house in center and fence around, simple. Its already possible, dont need to be scripted and work same!! you can lock itens inside the fenced area, you can put multiple fences and make it more safe.....Also you can build the house the way you want.

Jiraiya Wrote:Fences are terrible. I'm trying to find the screenshot of what my mate Rydaro did on xuo. He had duped a ton of money/castle deeds/keeps/towers/etc. Then he used fences to basically zone off about 80% of ice island into a massive maze of fences and houses. You could use 1 room houses to extend your fencing areas wherever you needed. Its ugly, its a pain in the ass for people trying to explore, and the problems with it far outweigh the benefits. Also theres a reason why you cant just recall inside your castle, or tower or whatever. Adding a fence that gives you complete invulnerability to use your house is obviously not a good idea.

Could be rules that would make such things ilegal.
But it is obivious this is nothing we should spend our developing hours on in the near future or at all. As it seems to much peole are against it. And it requires alot of monitoring and or extra rules.
