Habibi Jones Wrote:Dude... Please save it. When I have the time to actually sit down and play the game I don't do anything anymore other than fight. I'm no better of a "PvP'er" than when I joined here... I was actually a lot better when I first joined here I'm sure, considering I had just come from The Abyss after 6 years on and off. It turned into a bad shard slowly over time, so I left. If you think you know good players or think that you are a good player, I suggest you take a trip to Moscow sometime and talk to the young guys who play UO at the cafe, (although I'm not sure how popular that is anymore considering Moore's law, PC's are cheap,) there you will find a room full of people who are better at UO than you are.
edit: If you make a legitimate argument besides a one line "it encourages players to play gank and learn the style in these duels/areas we had it on IN-X it makes players active it's only a plus to the shard It doesn't harm the shard if it's monitored and only up a certain amount of time per day" then perhaps what you say would have some merit and I could explain to you why it's not a good idea.
"it encourages players to play gank and learn the style"
It encourages people to fight for no resource cost whenever they can. It benefits everyone differently, some people in a good way but most in a negative way. Having a bunch of automated PvP events every day, a casino with duel stones, and another static place to duel SUPPLIED, 5 TIMES A DAY, FOR EVERY PLAYER sounds like a good idea to you? Please, show me some reasons why this is a good idea besides speculation:
"it encourages players to play gank and learn the style"
That is an assumption, broh. For all you know it could have the complete opposite effect. There is really no way to predict the impact that it will cause on people's PvP habits, you can merely speculate.
I foresee you saying this:
"Oh, but shouldn't we test it then to see who is right?"
No, we shouldn't, because if you give a mouse a cookie not only will he ask for a glass of milk but he will ***** if you stop giving him cookies.
There's a difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice, dueling 5 times a day just so people get the hang of the PvP isn't a bad idea your not feeding anyone anything. it's a limited time monitored by a GM. All there is now is automated events so there really is no difference having this if it's going to benefit for the good of the shard. It doesn't only encourage people to PvP/Gank It encourages them to be active and actually play instead of macroing all the damn time.
Events need to be made more often rather than just automated stuff yes I agree, this wont hurt anyone though far from it.
Btw you've said that milk and cookies saying like 5 times now you may wanna change it up
