Lets pretend for a minute that each of us is the admin of IN:X. I guarantee you no matter who each of us chooses to be new staff member(s) there will be people not happy with our choices.
Even when I spent 3 to 4 hours or more per day on my GM back on XUO people weren't happy and that's not even counting the time the other staff put in. There were always people complaining about lack of staff. Some people are so ungrateful for the time the staff spend to entertain others. I rarely see people thank staff for hosting an event but I'll almost always see someone complain about something before, during, or after a tour.
In the long run, people will only remember the negative. If a new staff spends 3 hours a day hosting for 3 months straight and then disappears for just 1 week people will want him fired because he's gone for just 1 week. That's the retarded mentality people have.
About training a new character...
Step 1: Choose Magery (90), Resisting Spells (100), and Healing (100).
Step 2: Macro Anatomy and Evaluating Intelligence - 50 hours total.
Have you spent any money or resources yet? No!
Step 3: Train Meditation - 9.15 hours, costs 1 nos flamestrike scroll that someone will probably give you for free.
Step 4: Train Swordsmanship and Tactics - buy 10 daggers which is maybe 200gp.
At this point you have spent MAYBE 500gp (you start with 2k) and all you need to be able to pvp is to GM magery.
Step 5: Hunt some simple monsters like orcs to make a bit of money.
Step 6: With the money you made from fighting simple monsters buy magic arrow scrolls to finish training magery. These aren't very expensive.
Look at that, you just made a PvP and PvM ready character in a few days! Did you spend HUGE amounts of money? No! If you don't want to just run macros for a few days straight then do a bit more hunting to raise Swordsmanship, Tactics, and even Magery and while you're training these you will make some money that you can spend to finish GMing Magery.
Is it fun to spend 3-4 days in order to be able to play? No, but it is possible to train a character without spending tons of money and resources. Does everyone know to do this the minute they join IN:X? Probably not... but it's not hard to ask someone you see ingame what skills they suggest to train and how. And that person can just say 'check the forums, people explained it there'.
The problem you guys have is that you think someone should be able to fight the best monsters in the world in a few days. There's a difference between when you can fight a monster or another player and when you can fight the best monsters in the world...
