Players shouldn't have to filter obscenity in options unless they are offended by pretty much every swear word. I mean, if you join a shard and 90% of the players say "**** you, **** this and **** that" half of the time they sure as hell won't think "ooh cool, I'll just filter obscenity in options".
Instead they will think "damn, this shard have lots of immature players, I quit". Unless they are just as immature, but that's not the players I want joining really.
I think you should ask yourself one question, do you really need to swear to make yourself heard?
I don't think that players would actually think "oh, they swear at this shard, I'm going to quit" either, but I could be wrong. :/
I understand that stuff like "FU-CK YOU ASS-HOLE!!" is immature, but we need to think about that normal sentences like "oh fu-ck, you won", or "fu-ck yeah, you rock!" won't work either. Or to mention a few more examples: "Shit, you're so cool!", "omg, wtf is that?", "that shit rocks!", "you're such a fa-ggot, "damn, I lost".
These are all "normal sentences" that ppl say, without offending anybody most likely, but it's still swear-words. Most of these sentences will probably be blocked completely, instead of just a @!¤#"! thing above the swear-word, and I'm pretty sure that that will piss people off just as much as it'll piss people off that people swear :/
That's why I suggest this compromise:
Swear-filter on all the time - yes!
But the way it is now? - No.
Instead: Swear-filter 24/7 filtering the "bad words" and shows @¤&"! where they are suppose to be, instead of one that blocks the entire sentence and says that you'll get jailed if u keep doing that.
Anyways I'm just speaking my mind as always, u do what u feel is right :]
