You seem to be missing the point...
Players shouldn't have to filter obscenity in options unless they are offended by pretty much every swear word. I mean, if you join a shard and 90% of the players say "**** you, **** this and **** that" half of the time they sure as hell won't think "ooh cool, I'll just filter obscenity in options".
Instead they will think "damn, this shard have lots of immature players, I quit". Unless they are just as immature, but that's not the players I want joining really.
I think you should ask yourself one question, do you really need to swear to make yourself heard?
