This is a very controversial matter to talk about. On one hand you have the situation being compared with afk macroing while there, and afk macroing while not there, but having a notification pop up when the gump arrives. I honestly do not see the difference in someone being at the computer while they are afk gathering to afk gathering and waiting for their script to notify them. Most afk gatherers have stated they do other things while this goes on, diminishing the ability to conversate with a GM. Well, the old days of IN1 shard, you were killed for the first offense for ANY afk macroing. Jailed, then banned if I am correct. If you want to get this situation calmed, all you have to do is end AFK macroing completely. By doing this, this still gives players the opportunity to afk gather, but has the same risk involved, only a GM is involved directly instead of a gump. This was a fantastic approach, as it stopped the hell out of afk macroers in their tracks. Of course though, back then, there was a lot less players then there are today. So I would say staff would need an increase in positions. (Count me out!) But There are also several scripting capabilities on the part of the developers to further restrict afk macroing. Well, you could do things such as:
Have the anti macro gump move them over one square, so then it messes up their route a little bit. Or use the feature that gargoyle axe's had, the ore monster spawning. This is also another great feature. It also brings in a spot of role play element as well as diversity. Perhaps having pickaxe's breaking after so many uses. THis is also another element that brings more diversity. Some of these ideas may not be Sphere 51A, but Sphere51A was extremely limited on its diversity capabilities. I would suggest using sphere atmosphere, and runuo features.
The possibilities are endless. I still agree with the punishment involved, but, it is a bit to harsh. a .kill sends the message the first time, a jail sends a stronger mesage, and theft of resources sends an even stronger message, and a ban is a final message. There should not be such severe measures to be taken as a first offense. There is a chance of a mistake on the GM's part. And you have to realize aswell, if you take their resources because you are a impatient ******* who cannot wait 5 minutes for a reply incase they are pooping, you seriously need to rethink this. I know at least one GM that does NOT wait more than 1 minute for a response, and this is QUITE unfair. And when a GM makes a mistake, when they do, there is no if, they do mess up, there will be no return of resources taken. If a GM says one thing, their word is final, sure this is an excellent law system, but if a GM makes a mistake, their rule is to NEVER replace items lost/taken/stolen/bugged, etc.
You all need to SERIOUSLY think about all these perspectives, come up with more, and discuss a medium.
THis system, I like it, but it is way to damn harsh, and there are to many what if scenarios, and then you have personalities and misunderstandings from language barriers and cultural barriers( misunderstanding of personality or speech)
Think before you all act.
Galens.
