Internet connection deals in Finland have been getting worse lately. The big 3 providers just seems to be getting along nicely in a cartel-like manner. They just buy out the possible competition and keep offering the same prices. You just can't get a decent upload rate where I live. The "best" consumer connection price has been 30€ a month for 20/1 (down/up) for years and prices just don't seem to sway from that. That's a price for 24 month deal so if you take it you are stuck for 2 years with said deal. Throw in extra 10€ a month and you'll have the possibility to bail out of the deal when you want. They have been touting 4G connections which are okay for most people (50/2 down/up, 15€/month) but if you tend to play online games the latency problems are unbearable at times. I'd be fine with these prices, but the upload bandwidth options they offer in here are just pathetic. I've been using software to combine multiple connections (ADSL+4G) to get any decent upload speeds and even then it's max 3Mbit/s.

Nice to see these forums are still up Big Grin

You live in populated region? I mean, it's the same in Helsinki too? Just strange, I can't believe that anything in Russia can be better than in USA and than in some of eu countries...
Because here I got like ~10 ISP's around, all trying to compete with eachother, thus, you get some neat offers, aka - any of providers will re-connect you to their network instead of your current provider if you already have one, for absolutely free. My neighbour who doesn't work often changed them just because he had too big debt to his current ISP... I get calls from my ISP's consumer service almost monthly, they are making sure if i'm satisfed with their services XD

Good to see that the IN-forums are back again!

Thank you Taran and Eru for taking the time to keep this place alive even though the shard itself is long gone :] I may not post here very often anymore but it's still nice to drop by from time to time to see what my old UO buddies are up to, so thank you for making that possible! :]

Local speeds are all well and good, but what we REALLY need is better [lower latency] inter-continental links!

Not in Helsinki and I'm not sure how it would be there, but I live in the 3rd biggest municipality in the country. Honestly there has been very little progress in last 10 years. Some other areas do get better connection (optical fiber 100/100, 20€/month) but coverage is still very bad overall and installation fees are stupidly high. I do get the same calls from ISPs periodically. Transfer is always free, but there is no point switching because all of them offer the exact same deal and I already have the best deal possible for my area. I honestly wouldn't even need more than 20 download, but 1Mbps upload nowadays is terrible. Google fiber, come save us!
