Practice duel arena
#61

Habibi Jones Wrote:"you yourself should join these types of events to get better."
"There's a difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice"

Wait so... You told me to use it at first, now using it is abuse? Tell me, with this system, what exactly IS the "difference in teaching new players how to PvP and abusing it to your own gain to practice"? Because I sure as hell don't see one, and that is half of the entirety of my argument to keep this out of the shard. If you read what was posted a few pages ago, you'd see that I agree with having an hour or so event that runs every 48 hours, so once every two days, where people can freely duel whoever they'd like supplied. There is no reward, since the reward is that you are getting the practice (AKA why this idea is floating around in the first place).

edit: No need to use another analogy, that one suits your actions just fine. If there's a better one out there, please let me know!

You obviously can't read

1. I said you would be teaching new players how to duel not abusing it to your own personal gains
2. I said it would probably be monitored by a GM so it wouldn't be up all the time
3. The reward is active players and they get to acknowledge the pvp style
4. It also helps players realize if they wanna play this shard or not if it's worth the macroing time
5. Your silly

5 points in 5 seconds good enough?

Nope, but 360 posts in one month is more than enough.

keep cracking jokes dude, you get so defensive when you can't prove your points it's pretty hilarious.

In the end there's no reason as to why this shouldn't be implanted.

Habibi Jones Wrote:I don't think 5 duels a day would have a huge impact on world PvP either but if it were added, I can assure you that you would see even less action than you do now. Aside from that, please think about the following concept:
If you give a mouse a cookie, he'll for a glass of milk.

Staff have added duel pits against their original plans not to, because players wanted them. Staff localized duel pits into the casino, because players wanted it. Staff has changed A LOT of things here, because players wanted them to.
This has created a big problem... Now there are a bunch of people who blast the forums with their opinions on what needs to be changed, and how they want things to work on this shard, EXPECTING staff to change it. When it doesn't get changed promptly, people *****. When it doesn't get changed at all, people ***** even more. In some cases, when people don't get their way, they blame the staff for playing favorites and being corrupt. It's ****ing annoying! It's a trend that you simply can't deny, if you've been here for more than 4 months then chances are you know exactly what I'm talking about.
There has been a terrible shift in the environment of this server, and quite honestly I don't like it. It makes the game not fun. It has turned a project that many of us have WORKED on and invested time and MONEY on into something which many of us "veterans" are almost ashamed to be a part of.

edit: People want to say "there's no action here anymore blah blah", there's a reason for it. It's because poisonous gameplay style (and personalities for that matter) are beginning to damage this shard. You can argue against that all you want, but it's the truth.

I don't "*****" about anything or expect staff to immediately add suggestions I make. Something good about UO is the power to evolve the game. Every idea that people give in the forums there are the same 3 or 4 people shooting it down.

Trust me, being allowed 5 supplied duels a day isn't going to do anything but help. Think about it. You can use a supplied arena 5 times. 5 duels doesn't last very long does it?

I didn't really have time to read through all 6 pages but I read a few posts and this is what I think:

Adding a specific BIG "pvp practice duel arena" where u're only allowed to duel 5 times / day, which is only open two hours / day, one for each timezone. (or perhaps two times / timezone if one time / timezone is too little, depending on what u guys think)

This will in worst case make the "world pvp" dead for TWO hours / day, which isn't much, but it would most likely encourage more players to learn the pvp, and in the long run I think that it would help the shard a lot.

Lags is right about that its expensive for new players to learn the pvp, having this autosupplied practice arena twice a day would help with that, but it still wouldn't ruin the world pvp (since it's not open more than two hours / day) which is what Habibi seem to be worried about, so it's a win/win for everybody. Smile

I actually think that it would have a spiral effect that would help a lot. Think about this:

- A new player decide to join the shard.

- The new player does not have items, nor gold, to try out the pvp. He doesn't know how to survive against gankers and he knows he'll just die in two seconds if he tries to fight somebody without practice. He has no friends since he just joined.

- He tries the autosupplied duel area, he does 5 duels with full gear against somebody else who most likely is willing to teach him or who may also be new and willing to practice with him.

- He realizes that the pvp is fun, gets some basic knowledge of it.

- He tries it out some more at the duel stones (for cash), he gets even better, he begins ganking as well.

- He becomes a good pvper / ganker and has a lot of fun, and tells all his friends to come to Imagine Nation to enjoy the fun PvP.

- The shard grows. More players come to try it out. More people learn the pvp from the autosupplied duel arena.. and from there on it repeats over and over again..

Think about it.. wouldn't that be worth it.. ?

Of course, if that's the effect it would have then yes it would be a great addition for people are trying to learn the PvP real quick and jump into fighting. It really would be great for new players, but there's no way to tell what effect it could have elsewhere. Don't get me wrong if that is what the majority of people want then by all means, it should be added. There could be bad consequences of having adding a place where everyone can go duel for free. I don't think it's a good idea to add another means of fighting outside of the real world, unless it's an event that runs. That's my only issue, the possibility of 100 people dueling 5 times a day auto-supplied and for free throughout the course of the day every day. It really isn't that difficult to hunt for a couple hours and get a nice chunk of cash as well as some armor and probably a decent power weapon. With a set of mediocre armor, a mediocre weapon, 10k worth of potions, scrolls, and regs, you are ready to go. All that's left is finding someone to mess around with who won't loot you, and there are clearly lots of people here who are interested in that. There are much better ways to get people of all skill levels together and talking (good talk) and honing their skills. An event type scenario is a much better idea because it is more centralized, which is the best case scenario for learning/teaching.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it should be there all the time either, thats why I said 1 hour / timezone, 2 hrs for each day. Because not only does it occupy players while they do their "five duels", but it will most likely also make A LOT of other players stand there and observe, and THAT will cause a lot less activity in the world, IF it is activated all the time. But not if its only activated 2 hours / day Smile

Exactly. If it's localized and contained to a certain time period every day, then that is absolutely fine. In fact, that will probably be very good for the shard like you said.

I appreciate where your coming from not wanting all pvp to be in arenas but the only world pvp going on is ganks. How is a new player going to suit up for 10k + weapon and armor and run to bb and expect to learn how to pvp when he dies instantly and loses his only items?
#71

I could have swore that the point of this game is to "take time" and earn what you got. Sounds like if you want to complain that it cost to much to pvp or train on this server you might need to learn how to pvm or craft to make some gold before you step out side of guards to play with the reds. Flame as much as you want but like habi said the more free shit you give them then the more they will want. At first they will love the 5 times a day but then will start to ***** saying its not enough time. 2 hours out of a day is plenty of time to make enough gold to pvp.

OK. Arguments established. Its up to the IN Gods now.

Its like beating my head against a brick wall with some of youTongue
