No. You don't.
How many times more does Shade have to explain that part to you before you get it?
LudaKrisha Wrote:. it'd be like u have gm's telling ppl on a ctf team to defend and which players to attack.
How the hell would chosing captains be anything like that? That was the worst and pointless example ever.

Not to put words in his mouth but I think maka would be proud that staff members give their time and effort into making events as much as possible and would understand that how events are ran cannot be set in stone due to the fact that circumstances often change.
In any case, there is nothing left to discuss here. Bottom line is whoever hosts the event has the final say. I think the best thing to do here is thank Promoe for the event, simply state that you never want to be captain again and be grateful it didn't end in a much less desirable way.

I actually feel for you, smoke.
If I happened to be in that position, and was forced to play a role that I didn't want to, I would simply ask to be excluded from any such event as a peaceful protest, and would simply take part in the events where I wasn't forced to play as a captain or leader, unless I felt like taking on that responsibility.
It also probably won't do any good to blast away at the staff members on the forums, but instead, stay cool. maintain. Perhaps you should have quietly contacted Taran, calmly stated your case, and requested a change in policy, as far as your situation is concerned. The staff answer -only- to Taran, and pretty much no one else, so the best way to affect change is to appeal to their superiors.
Ultimately, it's your choice, though. And until Taran sees fit to update this policy, the staff unfortunately -do- have the power to force someone to be a captain if they choose to do so, as unfair as it may seem to you.
While I understand your frustration, let's not turn this into a nasty thread.

He could have left the event and he wasn't forced to be captain seeing as how Promoe made someone else captain after smoke complained about it in game. This post really held no merit in the first place come to think of it.
Fact is, nobody forced him to join and nobody forced him to stay. You have as much choice about being captain as you do picking what color your team is. Staff can pick both based on what the players want or they can make the call on their own. You either need to trust the staff teams decisions or simply not join in if you stand against something about the event.
It is not as though he never had a choice here, he wasn't even captain after he said he didn't want to be. He could have just left the event as well.
As for Taran making some policy, that wouldn't make anything different. Unless Taran took a month to type up a guideline for every possible scenario for each and every event, there will always be something that someone doesn't see eye to eye with the staff. Even if he did this, I still wouldn't follow it because I wouldn't work for someone who didn't trust my judgment.
To make a long post short, leave the event if you don't like the rules. All you have to do is ask to be removed and you will be.

I agree with most of what you wrote, Shade. As I stated above, if I didn't want to be the captain of a team, I would have simply refused and asked to be excluded from the event. He probably should have, also. simple, really.
I also wouldn't have made a thread like this. I would've contacted Taran directly. Furthermore, I would have appealed to Taran that people should have the right to not be captain of a team, if they choose to decline.
If Taran did NOT see fit to update that rule in events, I would simply ask to be excluded from any event where I was FORCED to be leader, as smoke claims to be.
As for the staffs' best judgement during an event, and trust in their decisions, I agree ALMOST wholeheartedly, but I would NEVER let anyone make me do something against my will. If I was elected captain by staff, and I didn't want to, I would most definitely ask to be excluded from their event and let them make their NEXT best judgement.
In summary, if smoke was really FORCED against his will to be captain, then I think it's unfair. But the purpose of my previous post was to state that simply blasting away at staff members on the forums is NOT the best way to deal with a situation like this. That is all.

like i said it's annoying to be captain all the time, which is why we refuse cuz honestly it is annoying being captain for 90% of the events. That is all im saying.

I really dont wanna argue but I personally think to avoid any problems, we should have the old system where the GM states a phrase and the quickest to respond is captain BUT if anyone is picked and refuses to go on the team then kick them from the event but dont force people to be captain because that is not fair in my opinion.

By the way, Shade. If you happen to check up on this thread, I submitted a roleplay story, and it seems it needs mod approval. Since you're the only mod in that forum that seems to still be around, it would be great if you could check that out. Thanks in advance.
