Swear Filter
#25

If people are bit-ching about it now...they'll bit-ch about it later.
Plus, in EVERY game that has a speech filter like this, people always find words or ways to get around it, like I just did.
I agree with Hate on most of this. I think it causes more problems and annoyances than it solves.

Just for the record, and to prove this has some use, a new player joined a few days ago and was speaking with me about the rp community. Shortly into our discussion someone decided it was appropriate to curse someone off at the bank. I have not seen him since.

The reason I mention this is because as an rp and pvp shard we should cater to both parts. As someone who has rp'd in the past I can tell you I would not find it at all fun starting here just to be cursed off for no reason within minutes.
"Oh that doesn't happen Shade". Actually it does.
Think of the new players, you think they want to spend their first minutes on our server getting setup or putting words into their swear filter? I personally want to get started right away and wouldn't even think to use the swear filter if it was that bad, I would just leave. Which is what this filter is trying to prevent. Sure it needs a little bit of tweeking, along with some more words added, but I like it personally.

Maybe if player could act mature around newer players and players they do not know, this wouldn't have even been an issue.

I love the way the swear filter is now... Maybe by having it like this it'll slowly teach these jerks that it's actually not necessary to swear in every single sentence.

Hate Wrote:I don't think that players would actually think "oh, they swear at this shard, I'm going to quit" either, but I could be wrong. :/

Sorry to say, but yes, you are wrong. I know people myself who has quitted because they couldn't stand the people who was swearing to everybody and nobody 24/7. I doubt they were the only ones who quitted because of this.

And about your filter-idea. Personally I don't think it's much differense in saying "**** you" or "!@#% you" to someone. That's why I'd say we keep it as it is now.

I have already spoken my opinion and will wait patiently since Taran already replied.

I think that a lot of people here do not understand that there are different levels of RPing. Oh and in my opinion, they are all welcome here though they might find challenging at times but that doesn't mean they shouldn't come here..

Anyways, they can co-exist.. but there needs to be some maturity for that to happen. We have RPers here and they stick with us, they shouldn't go elsewhere because this shard is supposed to be for both pvpers and rpers. Aren't we as staff, no as a community, supposed to try and make this shard suitable for all not just some?

All words in buc's den should be filtered to ADD swear words since it's such a rowdy, rough-and-tumble town. ~_O

or piss em off and make em want to quit because it's so annoying, I guess we'll just have to gamble with it and find out Wink

Did they quit because ppl said "fu-ck you", or because of that they said "you're a fu-cking newb who sucks so much and I hate you" ? Because seriously, there is ways to say stuff to make ppl sad and quit, but just the swear-word itself isn't rly that harmfull, at least not in my opinion, but perhaps ppl do quit over it, I dunno, I just haven't met any such sensitive players yet :]

Lederoil Wrote:And about your filter-idea. Personally I don't think it's much differense in saying "**** you" or "!@#% you" to someone. That's why I'd say we keep it as it is now.

So lets make a filter that removes the swear word, so all they'll see is "you" instead of "fu-ck you" ;p That should be pretty harmless, but it won't stop the whole sentence and piss ppl off so much ;p

Anyways Taran will try this for a few weeks like he said, so I guess we'll just have to see how the ppl reacts. If it starts to piss ppl off too much then we'll have to change it, if not then we'll be keeping it, that's about it, so lets just wait and see :]

i actually get extremely angry at this sentence blocking peice of shit.

And when your angry you dont do things properly, you mess up and such. By messing up i lost about 100k, So thank you for the swear filter!

Btw just leave the 100k check in my bank.
