Before you call me crazy please read the whole post of my suggestion.
I propose that all static owners pay somesort of fee (monthly) for owning a static. The reasoning behind this you ask? I say this because there are tons of owned AND unused (the combination of both is what I'm saying) statics in the world that people just hold for the sake of holding.
Not only that but statics currently do NOT decay, thus since static owners are given such a privilege I believe they should pay a fee (like a housing tax). The amount you ask? I would say something like 5% of each static's value or something like that. I'm proposing for a housing tax on each static you own.
How would it work? Have it so that at the starting of each month they'd have to pay to keep the static or have an eviction notice notifying they have x amount of days to get out or resell.
This also makes it so people don't just own tons of statics for the sake of owning them.
I'm 100% sure static owners won't like this, but please let's have an open and unbiased opinion when you reply.

i actually agree with it ...like there were other statics i wanted to buy but all were taken and no one using them...like Dalz Palace in SH, such a huge static taken up for nothing, when does that guy ever play? anyways i think it would be a good idea but probably best way should be like a vote of all static owners.

I don't own a static but I still wouldn't want to see static tax. I do think that statics occupied by longtime inactive players should be set vacant at some point but I don't think any kind of tax is the way to go.
Moving all the things to a container inside the static owners bank and paying estimated cost of the static back might work. This is just in case the player might come back. Only problem I see is that all the items in a static might not belong to just a single person so some items might go to a wrong person. Freeing up statics of inactive players would open some new money sinks for active players. I've heard many players that would like to buy a static but won't because there is not any good ones available anymore. I know a lot of people would want the prime spot static right outside Britain (belongs to Allanon at the moment I believe).

Statics are very expensive as they are, so having a monthly tax it would be bad. A 5 mil worth static would have a monthly tax of 250k if it was 5%, for what? Nothing. Statics are difficult to get because of their cost so that is enough in my opinion. And there will always be people who will see their dream statics taken by someone else. Hell that happened to me 2 days ago

I like Kamos Idea most.
Tax sucks, we worker for the millions we used to buy the static, its just stupid have to pay 250k each month to use it.
I prefer Alzheimer than Parkinson. Better forget to pay the beer than pour it all.
The Love Tent, all you need in PvP Suplys for a good Price! And some other things

Accepting Carpentry orders!
By the way, the first two regular houses you own don't decay. It's only if you own more then 2 houses you have to visit the other ones to refresh them.
As for charging a tax, I don't like this idea because as Ryuuku said people who own statics worked hard to save up sometimes millions of gp to buy it. By the way, I don't own a static.
What I'd instead prefer to see is a limit on the number of statics you can own. This way when you make a bid to buy one you mean it and you're going to use it rather then buy it just to stop someone else from getting it.

the 5% was just off the top of my head it could be changed to some other amount that wouldn't be so much every month.
and yes everyone works for their millions but that shouldn't prevent players from getting a place and having some rich dude overbid them\having owners not even use their static which blocks other ppl from having it. If all these players work for their millions having an extra amount to pay monthly shouldn't be a problem then in my eyes.
also 80 statics won't decay period so u could own 5 houses and never use ur static and never worry about it decaying.

I think this suggestion is addressing different issue. This wouldn't in any way address issue of longtime inactive players owning a static and it not being used for anything. I wouldn't really care how many statics people own as long as they are actually used by somebody. These "waste of space" statics are my only concern. Unused houses got (somewhat) addressed by implementing decay, statics did not)

Dumb idea, used to target people like me who have already spent 10+ mil on statics. Taxing statics adds no benefit to the server. We could just as easily say that property tax is included in the final price, considering it's already 3-6k per tile for the statics already.
What's wrong with your brain?!

What's your incentive to play UO? PVP? What's my incentive? To hunt and make money for statics.
If you install a tax on statics, I want to see PVP changed. I want invis potions added, meditation rate increased, and total mana potions craftable.
