[Eighty Swords]

Last night as I was half distracted by the hockey game I played Odium in a game of Battle Chess!

Odium took an early lead taking my knight after I took his guarded pawn. He kept going like a bat out of hell taking all my pieces, a bishop, rook, and even my QUEEN!!! Until suddenly my rook appears out of nowhere (actually off Odium's screen) and I took his QUEEN!!! After a 5 minute pause to allow Odium some time to recover emotionally he tried fighting back but I was in control now.

Odium soon realized I was the battle chess champion and he foolishly declared he was now playing for a draw! After a few exchanges of pawns Odium attempted to guard his lsat two pawns with his only remaining piece; a rook, as they were heading to become queens! So I played a solid defense and stopped him short.

We ran in circles for a bit as I cleaned Odium out with my rook, bishop, and knight and then I capped it off by guarding my pawn to the finish line and making it into a queen.

Odium thinks his draw is in site and declares "3 moves til my draw ". I look at the board, think I can win in 3, move my queen into position to check Odium's king and force him to the side boards and it's CHECKMATE! Eighty Swords defeats the lowly Odium in battle chess!!!

(witnessed by Papa Smurph when he wasn't busy running away from the game in fear at the thought of playing me next muhahahaha)

Until the board is set as a regulation board, no reward for you! well minus that piece of paper you get :p You should frame it and then wear it like a necklace every time Odium is around.

Yea Odium, you WERE winning. Then I pulled secret move 101 and killed your queen!!! Then I pulled it again because you still weren't paying attention muhahahaha!!!!

You know Odium, that was the first time I ever beat you at something in UO. That so deserves something! I should definitely get a paper saying I kick ass, or a trophy! Yea I say a trophy shaped like a chess piece!

I'm surprised you only used the rigged board as an excuse and not the real reason lol!

I was down 3 pawns, 1 bishop, 1 rook, 1 knight, but he had only his king and a pawn on the board. Then he couldn't move anywhere so via some made up rule he draws the game. That aint no draw! If you cant move anywhere at all without moving your king into check, thats mate. Not being in check at the beginning of the turn is irrelevant.

Actually, chess rules are that if you're not in check and the only move you can make puts you in check, that's called a stalemate and not checkmate since you aren't in check at that point. In tournaments it counts as 1 point to each player, so a draw. Same as in a football game if it's 2-2 after extra time that's a tie (draw).

Such a stupid rule lol. I'm sure theres probably some good reason for it but it seems so dumb. Say I'm a king up in my castle, and another king marches this big army up to my gate. I've gone and mismanaged and ended up killing my whole army somehow, bad curry or something, they're all dead from terrible diahrea. But just because I dont walk out my gate and take the death like a man, I win as well? I can see this little king now saying, "NOPE I AINT COMING OUT.... tell you what... how bout a draw?" As he's surrounded by an entire army ready to chop him into little bits.

Makes no sense. To me anyway. Moves were available, its just every one of those moves results in death. Its a pretty clear victory for one side I'd think at that point
