Fishing
#1

Have deap sea serpents/krakens and MIBs been implemented, or am I just fishing for no reason?

I went from Brit to Skara, and all I got was 6000+ fish steaks Sad

They are implemented, which runs along side another fishing system. Fishing in general works as it normally would but you can also get a deep sea fishing pole which allows you to catch exotic fish and even slightly increases the chance of pulling up nets and MiBs. The exotic fish can be used to make aquariums for decoration purposes.

To use the exotic fishing system, you need the deep sea pole and bait, which attaches to that pole. While using this pole you must be in deep sea waters, which is roughly defined by 100 tiles away from land.

I think you also neef 80+ fishing skill to start fishing up serpents. Not 100% sure on the value.

100 tiles, I always thought 16 tiles was considered deep sea. I'll give it another try, but all I've gotten is fish and a few pairs of boots. I have over 80 fishing, but haven't pulled anything special up yet.

Is the deep sea fishing pole and bait a random mob drop, or is it available somewhere special, I wasn't able to find one on the fishers on the docks.

There is a quest giver in Ocllo that tells you what to do, but the actual pole is bought from a vendor stone next to the NPC. Basically, you buy stuff for fishing with sea serpent scales. The pole is about 3000 scales, which is a bit of a pain to get, but it goes faster than you think. You can buy bait from the vendor stone or from turning in 'big fish' to the 'Fishing Contest Officials' placed in various cities.

Also, since deep sea poles aren't linked to your account or character, they can be bought and sold from other players.

Also, you can make bait through the cooking skill.

*Edit*
Decided to do a quick check to make sure everything is as it should be. I caught a deep sea serpent (MiB) after 228 successful fishing attempts with gm fishing. Looking at the script I just remembered, you need 90 fishing to catch creatures with TMaps and 100 fishing for MiBs. At 80 you can catch creatures that have fishing nets. Creatures pulled up with fishing nets do not do a skill check and can drop nets, maps, MiBs.

How do you turn in the big fish? Also, you need to be GM fishing to do the quest it seems, so I'm a few days at this skill rate away from getting it.

Also, are mobs supposed to be able to pull me to the side of my boat, or is that a glitch. Went afk while I tried to kill a kraken and had an unfortunate surprise when I got back.

Walk up to a Fishing Contest Official with a big fish in your pack, they should ask you something, then you respond appropriately.

The prize is based on the weight of the fish and some can weigh up to 200 stones. Wink If it's 180+ stones, the official will mount it for you.

Mobs shouldn't be able to pull you off the side of the boat. However, sometimes you will take a step toward a monster that you are attacking or that is attacking you on a boat. I'm not sure why this is, but I usually stand behind the mast of the boat while I shoot at the monster to make sure I don't accidentally walk toward him.

Also, you can fish while hidden, so if you add that to your macro, the sea serpents/krakens will ignore you.

Doesn't seem worth skilling up with the rate of high leveled magics dropping off mobs.

It's pretty good money for something that you can do while semi-afk and with little risk. I used to make a lot of money from saving up a *ton* of MiBs, mapping them all on UOAM, then going and fishing up like 100 of them at once.

But, since it's a safe way to make gold, both from PKs and from really dangerous monsters, it makes sense to have it less profitable than other ways of making money, otherwise everyone would spend all their time on boats and noone would ever see anyone else. :p

Like we discussed in-game, I got a vanq off of a skeleton mob either from an accurate crystal or just a normal drop. I agree dungeon crawling should be more profitable, but being outdone by a 10 second character is a little different.
