How IN can get its groove back
#1

some of these things will not be popular. But one of the things needed to grow the player base is the feeling that there is something interesting going on. If the GM's don't make a radical change the player base is going to hover around 25-35 players. You need the trend to start moving up and it will bring more players.

I noticed that there are no guards in East Britain. This is very interesting and would provide some interesting conflict between players. However, it is not being used at all. Players do not go to East Brit. Reds do not go to east Brit. The reason is, there are safe zones to bank in. So i would do the following:

get rid of the casino. nuke it. It's a care bear safe zone. Red players just afk and idle there and also do their banking there. If getting rid of the casino is a no go then at least remove the bank box.

have elections (or appointments) with West and East Britain with an Order player running for West Brit and Chaos for East Brit. Each ruler would get a title attached to their name. It could be King or Overlord or Warlord etc. Not mayor though. That sounds puny.

now you have the city divided between order and chaos and guarded and unguarded. Then you can allow chaos players to purchase static buildings in east brit.

what this will do is create a lot of action in the capitol city with the city divided between good and evil. When a new player signs on he sees the conflict and sees there is a lot of interesting things going on here. After two weeks of this even that floating turd sm0ke will be wishing he still played here.

I've always wanted to get rid of the casino safe zone, I hate how it is used by people to wait, gather up in safety and then gank people fighting at the bridge. Not my decision though.

I know you've suggested things like elections and kings a few times, but you aren't asking for a small thing, you're asking for a lot of scripting, we actually had some work done on this in the form of a town stone with elected positions but I'm not sure where that is at, nevertheless that isn't a quick solution and I'm also pretty skeptical that it would mean anything to 99% of players, as a player I certainly never cared who was mayor of Trinsic on IN1 (one such electable position) and I don't think anyone else I knew did either. I'm not saying no one cares, but I am saying you're really hitting a niche group and it isn't going to fix the playerbase.

I'd love to see some east brit vs west brit, but currently we don't have a strong divide between order and chaos, I'm not sure what to do about that. Most PvPers just seem to go red, so I suspect a PK vs anti-PK thing would be easier to sustain.

Do as it was on IN1, entire britain is unguarded, full of monster and the capitol city is Trinsic. That was much better than boring Britain..

It would be great a conflict between west and east!

Anyway, i see lot of new players that log in few days and then leace the shard...probably it would be nice to have more starting quest and other pvm quest.
I've done one this morning, it was a great quest with really interesting loot, and a boss that al least 2/3 players together can kill it...by now, everyone has a personal hunt place where find golds and other items, but one thing that really attracts the players are the nickels.

I don't know, in my opinion by now there's a good movement at brit bridge for who want to pvp, maybe others pvm actions can raise up the interest of more players...
At this time, with few people, pks are good to keep high the attention of everyone (is part of the game, without them and without adrenaline, would not be so funny), but have brit unguarded would probably do escaping the new players (and also some old)...

we need more people to be active AND the GMs to be active. a lot of people have been complaining that GMs are on... therefore, they quit. GM's are crucial here... so we need active GMs

Don't be silly! Just because you don't see them on doesn't mean they're inactive. Rolleyes

I'm sorry, just give me a few days to quit my job, dump my girlfriend and abdicate all my other responsibilities as an adult and I'll be ready for my indentured servitude as a page monkey Wink

yes i think PK vs anti-PK would be easier. I guess elections are not that important. Yes, they are for niche players but those type of players are what i would call connectors. They RP and create narratives and other players can drift in and out of these narratives. For instance, lets say there is a King of West Britain and he and his clan decide to cross over to East Britain to serve a warrant on a criminal who the King says is wanted for crimes in West Britain. Well, this is interesting; it is a storyline. Another player, who is not part of this niche may see this conflict and it may interest him and as he starts to develop skills he begins to cross over to East Britain to fight the thugs and villains that hang out there.

This could be done without having a sovereign authority over each part of the city but it would be difficult because other than the fact that one part of the city is guarded and the other is not there is nothing telling the players that the city could be halved into a political anti-PK vs PK conflict. By having a player who is given the title as ruler of each part of the city it puts the structure in place. I agree the scripting may be too much but there may be other ways to decide each King. For instance there could be a tournament to decide the King of East Britain. Or for West Britain the Kingship could be given to the GM of Vae Victus (they seem to be the only order guild). Or maybe the King idea gives another guild the incentive to put in place a strong bid for the Kingship. It could be handled without scripting.

Yeah... No. Just because a guild is aligned as order doesn't mean they are true order. Ask Ayleth Payne how many times she has been killed (read: harassed) by Illuvator.
