GMs doing anything? another subject about player base way down!!!
#13

honestly loki you one of the only staff members that post on a regular basis.....and to alot of players when they notice not alot of gms on they feel as if the sever is going to shit...so i do think staff have something to do with playerbase...

True Mael, thats what i feel... anyways even with a filled life you can always save time to think about something good to keep people active... and this can also start here... thats why we are all here for

I do agree maybe have one more gm on board that will create events for people and such what, but I can't complain on what they did gave us... I was looking through a few things and rememberd all the events.... hope to have a few soon !

why do you need events?

This is Ultima Online. You create your own fun. Too many players here need GM's to hold there hands.

The staff on a server is there to deal with game mechanics, gameplay issues, and to make sure people aren't cheating. They are not there to make your fun for you.

well you do know that ALL other shards do this??? why do you think people dont stay? cause other places do do it...i mean i honestly dont care THAT much about events but its just alot more exciting to know youd get an event crystal to get something better than just gold...

I'd like some grog drinking contests, cock fights, and boxing matches. It's better when it's GM hosted because there's no chance of some asshat ruining the fun.

i've played on lots of servers that hold zero events. And those were some of the best servers i played on. When the old IN was at it's best there we'rent any events. It's up to the players to create the dynamic narrative/storyline . If players are just waiting around for the next event then thats the problem. Not the GM's. We've just got a bunch of lazy, boring players with no imagination.

i have yet to see you hold an event .....only person to ever seen hold events was dogis..and that cause he didnt care about giving away items..but most of us dont have the pleasure

Loki Wrote:I actually find it strange, on the old servers (IN1 and IN2) there were fewer staff, fewer events, fewer script updates and much less of a culture of taking suggestions or interacting with players and somehow players managed to find their own fun, hunt, fight and adventure among themselves. When I was a player myself I used to find plenty of things to do myself, events were an added bonus, and I certainly understood that at certain times of year or when certain events (e.g. new almost world-record-breakingly-popular game in similar genre) would negatively impact the playerbase, I didn't expect that the staff - a bunch of volunteers - could do anything about it.
This exactly. There is a huge amount of content in-game already added over many years of the shard being developed. Anyone who's said they've cleared all the dungeons, quests and found all the rares is probably lying.

Most of the suggestions that I hear for raising the playerbase involves having multiple staff logged on 24 hours a day chaining events back-to-back. It's just not possible and *anyone* will burn out within a week of trying to do so. It's not a matter of losing your interest in UO, it's just having your interest turned into a full-time job, then having people trying to ruin your events, complaining about it the whole time, etc. Not that everyone does that, but it does happen.

The point is, get out there and explore, make friends, do something. There's plenty to do and no reason to require a GM to add stuff for you to do.

On a side note, a lot of GMs are active in ways that are invisible. For example, virtually nothing that I do is broadcast or requires players to show up for it. I tend to make quests, create/decorate new areas and try to make automated events that don't need a GM to be behind the wheel.

Thats the point, You are one of the few that can spend time thinking on a solution for this playerbase coz i know u already meditated on those auto quests/pvm events, and there are alot of solutions that you can bring to IN since you are a Creative person, a Tool of god...
There are solutions already like random events, but has u can see only a few are looking for those events, we have to think about something addicting, some system that could also email people once its ON for eg...

well honestly if there is so much content ingame maybe it should all be listed somewhere so we can know...obviously newer players arnt going to have any idea where quest and stuff are located

what i see in this thread is something i've said from the very start which makes me look like a genius yet it was so very obvious to see from the very beginning.

staff not active or don't feel appreciated so they go and spy and have fun instead of creating it for other players, you think you should even been a staff member if your feelings get hurt because of the way people talk to you? No your suppose to be above thats why you have the job. A good judgement call is whats needed.

Like i said there could be MUCH more effort with being active instead of thinking or knowing whats best for this shard for your selves, maybe listen to the players and give them what they want instead of trying to create other new things and automated things?

anyways like i've said from the beginning people will move on to diablo 3 if they didn't like how the shard was heading into certain directions and that's exactly what did happen lol it's not rocket science.

I my self love diablo 3 im almost in act 4 inferno and can't stop playing even with the terrible launch of some classes and the lag was still worth the 60$ by far because you at least get some enjoyment out of it rather than waiting around here waiting for events or waiting for scared people who don't want to lose items to go hunt. (i'm not saying you should be here constantly 100% of the time but there was very little times staff was actually active or had enough balls to actually host something without getting there "feelings" hurt)

Please go away.
