My first major experience was on IN1 as well.
Me and my friend Tobbz made some characters, trained our magery to 60ish by just running around casting on eachother and random shit.. then we found some boats that weren't locked south of brit. Ended up sailing around the world a few times until we ended up in.. buccaneers den. We both got off the boat without telling him to drop anchor and when we got back the boat was gone. Of course we were noobs and had no idea what a recall rune was so we were pretty stuck.. We ran around buccs den for about a week killing brigands and such and amassing a horde of weapons and armor that we stashed in some random dresser in a random building. Eventually a week or so later we saw another noobish guy sailing past us and called for him to help us. He came over and the instant he let us onto his boat we killed him, got our stash of items and started sailing convinced we were going to be filthy rich from selling all our leet ruin/might weapons... And then on the boat ride home we were goofing around attacking eachother and he accidentally killed me and we discovered that water was too buggy to loot corpses on.
Another interesting story.. This is a month or two later, im a bit more established.. got my magery to 80ish so im convinced im a badass. I've spent a fair bit of time hanging out with Sir Manyak in mt kendal, one of our favorite pass times was to open a gate to brit bank and throw a para field over it, and then FS whoever came in. We called it fishing... Anyway a few of my RL friends had decided to play and all they really did was mine.. So naturally i took all of there good ingots and sold them.. because they couldnt stop me. They did train up their combats a bit in order to try but i would just kill them with a BS or EV. Eventually i was bragging to manyak about all the free ore i got from the 4 of them.. and he was a bit jealous and asked if he could buy one or two. So i sold him 2 of my friends for about 50k. I loved hearing about how much of a slave driver he was and if they didnt get him enough ingots quick enough he would flamestrike them to near death as a warning.

I remember my first time installing the game and logging in. Can't remember what shard but I was on and I think I started in Trinsic but when UO opened, the only thing showing was the game world screen (no backpack, paperdoll, map, etc, so I ran around for a few minutes, thought it was stupid and logged out. Only until later did I find out how to open those things. Once I figured that out, I went about to travel to Britain since that was the capital city, ha. I followed the road from Trinsic to the mountain pass, and on this shard that trail was spawned with red brigands or something. I remember at the time I thought they were pks so I was scared to try to run by them.

Indeed they do but I do not think that they need hand holding.
When I started at IN1 I got my ass handed to me by every pk there was but I didnt give up so I started to pk people my self instead and thats a good way to make cash.

I remember the first time my title changed to "The Fair Ramza Beoulve." I was far too excited and kept playing to see what additional titles I would get. I spent a ton of time in the newbie dungeon that you entered from Trinsic. I think there was the same (or similar) one in Vesper for a while too right? that's going back a while now...

I remember when I entered onto IN1
DoD (Dwellers of Darkness) was an irl clan guild for Quake and several other games, for much time the 'brotherhood' as we usually called it nagged me to drag myself into UO and IN1, I never felt fascinated with the graphics of this game at first, after much consideration, I decided to join up and was greeted by my well established clan members into a game that had real roleplaying!!
I was astonished, the rp took a great part of my life on IN, I was a member of DoD, then I was the main recruter and Guildmaster for CoD (Children of Darkness) a wing guild of DoD, and latter in the game, I found Obscurum and then joined up a great roleplaying guild called Ascension with Kaervas as the Guildmaster.
Good old days, when at the cost of a good roleplay base character I never needed to GM a single skill to go trough the years on IN... Memories of old days, brilliant people and atmosphere are reviving, IN is something that is carved deep into my heart. It's good to see so many familiar faces around

My first experience was on OLD XUO. I made a character and ran into Minoc by accident and I saw Alber (old Spanish pvper) but he only had a few HP and was grey so Silverwolf was teaching me how to open my spell book because it was like 10 years ago and my first time logging in. I ended up FSing and killing Alber and looting all of his scrolls and regs and a rare dye tub he was transferring LOL. So . . That's when I realized I wanted to be a PKer

I remember back in the days on Novus Opiate the first one i guess. Not about the first login but about all the times spent in Newbie Dungeon! We were like 4-5 irl friends playing together and we ran around killing monsters we didnt know how to cast spells or anything so it was bandages all the way hell hounds were vicous =).
When we tried to start using spells we ran around brit bank asking people how to and they answered: "you need regs" and we where like: "Quick write it down on paper" lol. After figuring out how to use spells we went walling and Bladespirit on people in newbie dungeon lol. Later on i got a house(and aqua armor!) from a player who decided to quit playing and wow that was huge a whole small house we were so cool.
Back then we had dialup connection 56k and it was charged by Megabyte so one(or several) time me and my brother played so much that my father took away the modem!

I suggest establishing the system of
'Novice Education'.
So that any player with 'X days on the shard' and 'XXXX.0 sum of skills' could propose to any newbie to become his
Teacher.
e.g.
- a Novice would get higher skillgain when close to his teacher [until his skills = XXX.0].
- both Teacher and Novice get 'education points' for killing a few types of monsters [or in special areas] while staying close to each other. Education points can be spent for special items [maybe only decorative ones].
- etc.
Or something like that. This should help our dear darling newbies to understand the features of the game, and the rewards should encourage skilled players to help newcomers to our world.
