Basically it is a system that allows you to place items on a virtual shop that players can access from a stone. You would be able to set prices on what you add and well its like a UO Ebay.
I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this since Dalz suggested it and I am torn between the pros and cons of it.

-edit- I just re-read Shade's post and the system may actually work the way I'm talking about below, but I'd like to hear his feedback on whether it works this way or not so I'm leaving it in:
=========================
I think that an auction system in the way most people think of it will be worthless. I don't know why, it's just a gut feeling that a system where you have to bid and wait for the item won't be popular.
What I think will be *amazingly useful* is some sort of system *like* an auction house that will let players browse all the items that are listed on vendors, and be searchable (or at least separated by type.)
So, for instance, if someone lists 10 items on their vendor, those items can be bought through the vendor as normal, OR they can be found through the vendor searching system.
As for how you want to handle buying, there's a couple of options.
One: People click "buy" and the item appears in their pack from wherever they are.
Two: People are told which vendor has the item, along with the coordinates of where they are located at.
The first is obviously much more convenient, but it eliminates risk. The second one is more risky for the player, but eliminates convenience.
I personally prefer convenience over safty, because to be honest, how many times has someone been killed right after they buy something from a vendor. Usually you'll recall in with reflect up, detect hidden a few times, make sure noone's around, buy the item, then immediately recall out. Still no risk, but more hassle.
I *really* like this idea, but would like to hear others' feedback.

I am not going to vote on this just because I also am torn between the pro's and cons of this. I believe it would be rather neat to buy what you needed at a stone instead of traveling from vendor to vendor in search of one particular item. But as Galdor stated we do have forums. I really just don't know. Maybe give it a shot and see how it works out. I believe I seen something like this on Phantasya and it worked out quite nicely. Try it and if it draws negative effects then do away with it.

This is an excellent idea. Having a virtual auction house via stone/gump would be AWESOME. Being able to set the starting price, bid increments, and "Buy it Now" price would be so unbelievably good for the shard's economy. Should stick the stone right in the casino

I like it .. World of Warcraft style. People buy the way they choose .. they can either use the Auction or go buy off a vendor if they really feel the need too.

Arya's auctioneer script (which I think there are updated versions of on the runUO forums) operates in much the same way as ebay/the WoW auction house in that you can choose reserve, buy it now etc. and set a description. So if you were going to implement something I'd look at that.
However, having said that, I kinda like giving players reasons to use player vendors and trade directly. So I'm not sure if I am personally in favour of it, perhaps you could allow the auctioneer to only be used for high end (high reserve/price) items, kinda like an ingame version of Christie's...

Holy crap, Original Poster = Shade.
I'd like to install the AH on the test server and see what it looks like first. If this is it, I already hate the interface:

I think we should hold this off for a while since we are implementing the new vendor website system soon

Am I the only one here missing out on the fact that was eru proposed isn't an auction? Maybe its because I ebay all day long or something but I don't see where bidding comes into play here. What it looks like is a stone where you can conveniently but items off vendors without having to do any work. I think auctions would be cool, but I think a stone where you can just buy things off any vendor would be silly.
