So me and 2 oldtimers frim in1 were discussing how the summon creature spell worked on in1, 2 of us say it was random while 1 of us say you could pick what you wanted to summon.
Does anyone remember what it was precisely?

It used to be random *LONG* ago on actual OSI servers. I'm pretty sure you could pick one on Sphere though since I remember being happy that you could always pick horse.
