Ghost Shard Needs Rebirth
#13

Smackethdn Wrote:Figured I'd make a 2nd go at it in a more counter point basis (easier to read):

This is what this shard needs to have any sort of survival from its current stage... im telling you, not asking you. and I mean that with all due respect.

1. Introduce new armors, from a few shittier ones, to 1-2 new rare tourney armors.

2. New mounts, newer colors, EASIER to tame, and variety of colored rides. orns,llamas,zos,mustang,etc... Look, taming takes FOREVER to GM, and takes FOREVER to tame something... It seems like its worthless to gm taming, because theres limited colors and limited spawn times... why gm such a hard skill if you have someone who knows all the spawns and is timing it and taming them all... also go look at vendor mall, all rides are the same... theres the same rides, different vendors... too many of the same things!!! introduce some changes man!

3. 1-2 dungeons where its solo for players, where they can hunt alone, and have monsters which drop decent loot. this will create action in pvm, people can do this alone... and also add pvp in dungeons because pkers will be searching.

4. Staff... I see some new staff now, mostly Necro.... If we had 1-2 more staff, as active as necro, and hosting daily like him, we would be ok. need them to answer pages, (not many anymore thats for sure), host, and give players a sense of "backup" if it makes sense. because for some reason, players like playing when theres a staff online.

5.Events... Add new events, Horse Racing, Make some sort of chicken fighting, more monster bashes, etc... new events!!! and varieties!

1: If pretty colored armors are what keeps you playing this game then you are not a true UO gamer bottom line. The fewer the modifications of the original game the better. No Skill caps is one thing, putting in 50 different colored armors and such is for the ADD crowd. Grow up, this game isnt about hording things, if that's what you want play Diablo.

2:I've never played on a server that have as many different colors for animals and such. Again this goes back to #1, if you need pretty colors to make you feel special take your ass down to H&M or Filene's and buy yourself a dress you queen. Also making taming easier would only make these mounts worth even less than they are now. 5k gold for a mustang is ridiculous. I know comparing economies from one shard to another is apples and oranges but I mean I can mine and sell my daggers for 1 hour and make that gold. You need to reward the people that put the time into their characters, not the people with 2000 total skill level.

3:I haven't done much solo dungeon crawling yet on my character so I cant really comment on this much. But if it is as you say it is and no dungeon can be done alone than that is an issue. Not everyone plays this for the social aspect, and there are alot of different time zone'd players here. Also the lower population base at the moment makes grouping with others more difficult.

4:Like I said before, Staff isnt an issue. More staff equals less players. If we have lets say 10 staff members thats 10 less players this server would have instead and chances are they are the "hardcore" players that we want. Considering how we have about 30-40 players on average logged on I cant imagine needing more than half a dozen GM/Counselors/Seers invovled. More than that is dead weight.

5:I agree on this front as well to an extent. We have alot of events, they just so happen to always be the same thing. PvP based. Not everyone enjoys PvPing, and to be honest I'm willing to bet most people here dont enjoy PvP. It's important to emphasize, but if you have Duel Stones and Ladders and such, what is the point of hosting tournies all the time? Maybe I dont know how your Duel Stones work and if the dispense some sort of reward currency like I have seen on other shards but the point of these are to take Staff involvement in PvP away or atleast make it a smaller priority. Quests involving sailing, racing, anything different would make a world of difference in getting more people invovled and not the 6-8 people these 1v1 tournies are bringing in.

Anyway, another 2 cents from me. I obviously have a vested interested in this server staying strong as I've already devoted a good month or so of my time here and would like it not to be in vein. So to that I say support the staff, stay positive and stop *****ing. People want to play somewhere they know will still be there a few months down the road and I'll be completely honest when I say this, if I was thinking about playing here for the first time today I would defintely pass. The negativity of some of these loud mouthed minorities make the entire shard look amatuerish and unprofessional. It's hard enough trying to get people to play a 13 year old game, dont make it harder by pushing these few and far between potential players to other shards.

a month is nothing comapred to the 3 years other players have invested time into, you haven't been here when there was no active staff. Not to mention 5k for a golden mustang is pretty expensive to me it's a horse with a bit tanned color from a regular horse that does the same functions there aren't many colors what's wrong with adding new ones? these are ugly and lame ones tbh always seeing the same things for the year or two can start to get on peoples nerves don't you think? Don't know where you got the idea of 100 colors being a lot..

Again you guys are trying to blame the people leaving from this shard from the negativity and aruging on the forums when we all know that's not the reason because when there was 80-90 players playing here they weren't driven away by this it was the lack of activity events answered pages and the constant crashes that they eventually got fed up and left because why spend so much effort on this 13 year old game when there are in fact way better and more modern games out there.

Btw who are you in game? You seem like you're someone with a multi account considering it's the first thing you do here and post here with you're 2 posts and new join date then you come complain about the pvp events and want other things rather too it you like the skill gain and you are saying that hunting involves a risk and that you should hunt with a partner which is lame and the loots suck here.

Basically what you're saying is that you don't want changes only some minor ones and that everything is fine when it's obviously not and you're trying to push it off as people posting negative things on the forums or saying negative things in game drives people away which isn't true at all lol..

It's pretty lame how theres always an exuse as to why the playerbase is going lower and lower it can never be admited that people are just leaving because it needs help or a solution to make players to leaving for example with the negativity thing and i seen someone say something in game about it's easter and their on vaccation that's why it's so low i mean come on don't make up stories to make yourselves feel better find a solution so we can fix this and stop putting it off.

Check the player status page, I am who I am right on the top there. As far as you investing 3 years versus my 1 month, I believe your point is irrelevent because when I first started alittle over a month ago there was around 60-70 people consistently so all of this drop off has been very recent. Also you should try improving your basic reading comprehension skills as I never mentioned anything about having to hunt with a partner as being something I'd want to do. However there should definitely be dungeons that support both types of play styles. I mean you can say this server needs major changes all you want but if you look at OSI and the way they have made very minor changes gradually for about 13 years now and still have over 100k people paying to play obviously they know something you dont. In the end the bottom line is people will cry when things are good or bad. There's no way around it but if it really bothers you as much as you say it does then find another shard. Whether its 3 years of playing or 1 month, no one is entitled to any more than what they are receiving. This is a free shard, the Admin/Dev does what he/she feels is right for the server. You have the right to bring about constructive criticism but that's not what I see on these boards, all I hear is empty threats about "the end" of this shard if things do not happen the way you want them to. In the end, if I ran this shard I'd concentrate on quality over quantity in regards to the type of player base I desired. Many free shards fall victim of a massive influx of grievers and fair weather players and see great initial numbers and see them dwindle to nothing. I played on a shard called Dragoness for over 4 years (2000-2004) and it rarely saw a player base of more than 70 and for all intents and purposes averaged around 40-50 people on at a time. However it was a very hardcore base of people that were on very often so it wasnt just 40-50 people macroing. Like I said, I started playing here at the suggestion of a friend that plays here as well and at that time the player base was pretty high in reagrds to what I'm used to. I don't know what could've happened in a month or so to create such disinterest but if what you want is a player base of 200-1000 and have this server be some sort of NOS tribute shard, you may be dreaming of the impossible. This game doesn't have that type of interest any longer, and with the exception of the UO Gamer shards I dont see many others ever getting back to those numbers again.

One final quip, just because this is my first time posting doesn't mean I haven't been lurking on these forums for a while now. Nothing like making someone new feel unwelcome but again if you feel your opinion means more than mine you're greatly mistaken. Last I checked the problem is keeping/attracting new players not old ones and mine is the voice of a new player.

PS. 100 colors for horses are too many, lets tell God he should make pink ones and gold ones and silver ones because you've been alive for 20 some odd years and are getting bored with the browns and whites you always see on TV.

I'm honestly not trying to start a flame war and am trying to keep things as positive and civil as possible but some people are stubborn as you can see.

Lol,in response to your opinion on the first and second point i mentioned.

1.
For the armors, As you havent been here as long as others, you wouldnt know the depth of how ingots are flooded all over the world. you wouldnt know how many people have 40k+ of the same ingot in their bank, making certain armors useless and flooded. There needs to be an addition to the armors we have, and we need to substitute them by removing other armors that have lost value.

By doing this, you will have the crafters who feel like they have everything, return and want to mine these newer armors and create some sort of market and economy boost. You're too tied up over the fact that too much color is bad and isnt a good look. IF you think thats true, why dont you go buy yourself a black/white computer screen and stop complaining? I answered you this way because of your "smart" comments.

There's no harm in color, and diablo is a shit game, way too repetitive, thank you though.

2.
Having new ride colors will be benifitial because I know when I used to play years back one of the things i enjoyed most was matching my ride with the armor/tubs I had. I used to still play the same way, but I enjoyed to kill in "style" seems to me you only wear black and white IRL. matching is fun all on its own.

Thats like waking up one morning and altering between 3 colors and saying thats enough for me. you arent open minded enough, and again are stuck behind this "rainbow kiddy" style of shard this can turn into, when that isnt the case at all.

Having newer colored rides, armor matching, will have people interested in purchasing new rides and collecting them aswell, what ever floats your boat. in my case, I would buy them to match up and suit to gank. Why run around looking so plain when you can have different styles?

also, your point makes no sense. your saying my idea of having color is childish and isnt "uoish" and I should go play Diablo. Who is to say what "uo" is. UO is what you want it to be, its fully customizable and you can practically add or modify anything, and thats the beauty of it.

Also, another fact, are you trying to tell me swampdragons, bears, etc... are very realistic? I bet you would be against it, but I know many servers where players love these rides and enjoy using them, not that I want to implement it. So if a shard as successful as UO gamers, has these functions, has newer atire like chinese type clothing n stuff, than I believe you're very close minded.

Im not trying to start an arguement here, Im just stating a fact that having newer color rides, and making certain armors discontinued and introducing new ones isnt something to be worried about.

Why are there over 100 color tubs, and 10 color rides?? who the hell wants to ride around on a brown horse when their wearing limerock clothing?? Im not trying to make this a fashion show, but having some fashion involved wouldnt be such a bad idea. would cause sales of tubs, rides, and armors... that seems to me like a good way of helping out the economies current status, wouldnt you think?

yeyeye!

Are you joking me right now? I didn't say my opinion means more than yours I said i've been here longer so I know whats been going on this time and i can't even begin to count how many times the playerbase has dropped and raised again. Don't criticize me because i've broughten countless numbers of players to the shard given new players 50-100k a shot to give them a good start at the shard showed people around help people getting on injection vote for the shard message people when theres tournements so they can get on and enjoy them while we have a higher playerbase. You need to rethink what you're saying before you judge me on just what I say on the forums, the reason I act like I do is because of no life lamers who keep grudges in game when i kill/pk them and take it out on the forums by turnning down suggestions.

I'm well aware of how old this game is and how it doesn't bring the same excietment that it use too but it's well off from over we can easily hit 100-150 players we just need to take the right steps to getting there.

I also didn't say there needs to be 100 colored rides out there, i'm saying theres a total of 100 hues on this shard that are currently active to rare dye tubs which is the least amount of colors i've ever played with and i've been wanting this updated for a while now but I myself am to lazy to do it but i've offered to help the staff with it and they themselves don't even want to do it with my help. But back to the main topic I think their should be other colored rides to be implanted though, Silverwolf pretty much said why we need new colors so I won't repeat that.

So becasue you're a new player you think you should be more heard than anyone and that you have more seinority? I was just pointing out that i've been here longer and I know more about the shard and whats happened and an estimated guess on how much items that we used per each skill on the shard considering I have almost all skills and i see the usual people with the craft skills playing still. If you got offended by it that was not my intentions I was just explanning that there needs to be something done with this and what you said is the complete opposite of what everyone is trying to do. (except the part of negativity on the forums)

Sure I said the shard is dying who doesn't? If you go in game you'll see everyone saying it and people also say they quit (which i rarely do, i take breaks) But I won't lie and say the shard isn't dying when it is..

As for staff, sure they donate their time host events and such we should be all greatful which we are I just get upset when I lose events, Although I think your missing the point on this one sure they help the shard but they also want to make this project for us so that we can play and enjoy giving them suggestions and explanning why all these bad things are happenning isn't insulting them were trying to give them a kick in the butt so they can help prevent it. Don't forget too we just recently came out of the beta and many players donated there time aswell gathering players voting sticking with the shard when nobody was around reporting bugs for the staff to fix so that this project that we all enjoy playing on is prefected. So I do think staff does an extremely well job but players also deserve to be thanked as well. It's been only lately that we have active staff and for that i'm really thankful I really think now were ready to grow again.

Once again this wasn't inteded to bash on you or hurt you in anyways I'm just saying from my point of view because i've been here much longer than you it makes sense that I can give my input but then again the input of new players won't always be heard because some things were promissed in the merge when we merged IN and XUO together, like staitcs R/Rs skillgain and PVP

Anyways we need to get the old players back on and see how active the staff is now and hopefully they'll agree and want to start playing again (not to mention we need to try to keep the crashes on a minimum because that doesn't help at all.)

I'm not really playing anymore and I have to say it has nothing to do with staff, shard features or number of events. Nobody has mentioned a suggestion that would make me feel like playing again even if it was perfectly executed.

What this place is lacking and would make me play again is what other IN shards had, a good community. People to hate, people to team up with, reason to kill and loot someone, urge to backstab someone for the drama and items, confrontations between different groups and both sides trying to recruit new people to their cause. Staff can't really do anything about it, it's up to the players. As it is, everyone just wants to gank, duel or afk at pits while there is no events. I find it all boring. This place lacks the IN mentality and community those who played the previous shards probably know what I'm talking about.

Some people are fine with just ganking, hunting, dueling and waiting for events but it's not really for me. I'm fine with that. I'll let those who still enjoy the shard as it is do so. Smile

I'm glad you find my opinion funny and I'm sure you're really laughing out loud but the fact is what you think the server needs is exactly that. What YOU think it needs. To each his/her own. I personally feel the gripe about colors is ridiculous and trivial. If things need to get done around here I really doubt that is on the top of anyone's list. You make mention of UO is whatever you want it to be. Sound very zen of you but the fact is UO is what the Admin wants it to be and like I was made to understand it was an homage to UO back in the early days (Sphere .51a). It that sense it is what it's advertised as. UO Gamers : Hybrid is about as modern of a take on the game as it gets which again makes the comparison apples and oranges.

As far as Mr Smoke is concerned, I never mentioned my opinion is more important that yours or I have seniority (you really need to buy a dictionary). But again you pretty much contradicted yourself. You say that this server is dying but you then bring up the fact that it is indeed cyclical as the population raises and falls over time. If you've seen this happen over time what makes this the time the server is really going to "die"? Also I'm glad you're a philanthropic person when it comes to virtual goods, I applaud your graciousness but again I didn't question your character, just your reasoning. You giving to the poor noobs of the shard doesn't make me disagree with your opinions any less. And you mentioned the stockpiling of ingots and gold and such, but has anyone brought up the possibility of a server wipe perhaps? Cant complain about an economy being screwed up when everyone starts with nothing. But again what does that really accomplish? In time the same people will hoard the same number of items and all will be as it is now. It appears to me you have a gripe with basic human nature, in this case greed.

This is my last post regarding this subject because if I really wanted to dissect this any further I could pick apart the flawed logic and contradictions all day. Let me just end it with the fact that I'm happy with this server so far. I just wish more people felt the same way and just played instead of complained. No shard is perfect and as Kamos pointed out the reason this game succeeds or fails is not the colors or the animals or the uniquely named/colored weapons but the community. And I can already predict what you (smoke, silverwolf) are going to say and it's along the lines of they are leaving because of the issues you brought up. Well the fact is those are your gripes, not everyone else's. People leave for a great variety of reasons and most of the time is just because they are sick of the game itself.

Well if you're such a good analyzer than you would have understood that I never said people left due to the reasons I mentioned... but instead the things I did point out would bring players back and have reason for them to return.

There are many reasons people left, as you said. Now if you want me to tell you the reason they left, not all of them ofcourse, but mainly because players felt ignored... pages werent answered for hours on, with player base at 70-90..., there was no events happening, constant crashes frustrating people, the dungeons being impossible to do on your own. monster loot was ridiculous, you would kill something that takes 2 evs and 10 blades and receive 1.5k,etc...

there's not one reason, theres many.

point is, did we learn from our mistakes? did we take notes on what players wanted? What the shard was lacking?

We need to find a resolution and attempt to bounce back, and having new items/tamables, etc... would definately help by giving motivation to get newer things for those oldschoolers who feel like there's nothing left to obtain or play for... These fixes, as you mentioned yourself, arent the key fixes that need to be done to solve the problem we have. but instead, they are fast fixes, stuff that dont take too long and can be quite effective... Make additions which are less time consuming before you tackle dungeons/spawns/loots... hense the key points I said we need to add..

yeyeye!

Its doomed, lets face it. blaming the players wont ghet them back. dont know why people can be so stupid sometimes.

This is what happens when the most involved player on a shard is snubbed and gives up and others follow suit Wink
