Keep track of AFKers in events
#1

I know some people hate reading long posts so only read the short part if you want to. Don't argue with me if you don't bother to read it all though...

The short version:

I suggest ALL staff keep track of any player/account that goes afk during a team event. People going afk seriously kills team events, especially when it's a low number of joiners. What's even worse is when one of your PICKS go afk.

If players are going to join an event then they should be there to play it, not go afk 30 seconds in.

Explanations:

I can understand the odd time where something comes up and you have to leave, but ffs don't join an event and then not even take 1 step around!!

I already suggested this to jackal ingame and I don't remember his exact words but I believe it was something along the lines of 'I don't want to keep track of that, it's annoying'. Well imagine it from a players point of view. You join an event and wait the 10+ minutes for people to join. Then you wait another 5-10 minutes for the teams to get made. And finally you wait ANOTHER 5 minutes or so for everyone to take supplies and GMs to start the event, thats 25 minutes gone so far. Then RIGHT OFF THE START someone on your team goes afk and now you have to play the whole event short-handed. Again it's even worse when this happens and there aren't many joiners. When a team loses one player and it ends up 10v9 it isn't so bad but when a team loses a player and it ends up 3v2 that really sucks!

If you join an event, play in it. Don't join to go afk and hope your team wins without you and you get a ticket for doing nothing. That's pure bullsh*t.

Back on XUO when I was a GM I'd go around checking to see if people were afk and I'd kick them because it was just retarted to me that they might end up with a ticket for going afk and not helping.

When I used to host a lot back in the day, I would block people from my next 2-3 events if I caught them going afk. I too hate it when people ruin an event for everyone by going afk in hopes that they will just get a ticket or just don't feel like putting up a fight when they don't get on their friends team.

Ultimately it is up to the staff hosting though and sometimes we get distracted or have rl things to take care of. Plus babysitting isn't really in our job description:p It sure would be nice if we didn't have to worry about this. Players should really remember that events aren't just about them as individuals.

It's annoying. But it doesn't help the team by kicking him either...

What shade said, blocking that person in the next 3 events would be the only good punishment.

3 would be too much considering the amount of tours we have is random, sometimes we get tours 5 times a day somtimes we get them 2-3 per week

blocking them from 1-2 tours would be good if you know your going to host more than one that day. if not just block them from one tour

It isn't too much, just don't go afk in an event. If circumstances arise you make a quick page saying so or tell the staff hosting real fast. This way you have the benefit of doubt, though people would probably abuse that too. "GM my house is on fire! need to afk!!" next event "GM my family just died and my house is on fire again" I have actually heard excuses (almost) that retarded before, ones in which they claim they have to leave the house and magically they arrive back home as soon as the event ends :/

Sorry to say but when some players aren't honest with us and don't take other players gameplay into consideration then rules need to be added to make sure they don't ruin it for those trying to have fun instead of the players that are only concerned about winning.

afking/minimizing and checkin in every few minutes is something that clearly should not be overlooked. when you join an event you should commit to that event or simply not join it.

Yes I did go afk because I had to check on my supper and I actually forgot to come back and ask the GM to take me out since it was ready and I didn't want to eat it cold.

But when was the last time before this you saw me go AFK during a tour? It doesn't happen very often that's for sure. Maybe I've gone AFK 2-3 times in 4-5 years of playing UO.

If there were a punishment involved for going AFK during a tour maybe I would have thought to come back and ask the GM to take me out.

There are some people who go AFK in a tour at least once a week and that's the worst part.

Answer = Jail.

Players that ruin events for other players should be punished as the other offences are punished. I think jail is a very "fair" punishment for going AFK in an event unless there is a valid explanation. I do see in some events there are 1 day old players that join a team just to stand there AFK. . . those players should be jailed, others that are known active all the time should also be jailed because there is no excuse for going AFK an entire event and ruining it for everyone else. This gets players upset and aggrivated towards the shard and staff team. Just my opinion.
