Stealing
#13

Shade Wrote:Just be careful with items that aren't newbied.

If we fold and disable item x from being stolen, soon enough people will want item y the same way. It will start a crazy chain reaction and before you know it the only thing stealable in game will be apples. Well until some apple picker comes to the shard and wants that changed too.

Like with everything there are two sides to the argument Shade. Yes, you do have to be careful with noobied items and your valuable items in general, but you can't always keep an eye on every item in your backpack.

My previous example of getting a commodity deed for 10k iron or a check for 100k stolen would really suck. But it won't happen with every item. Like anything stackable you can't steal it all in one shot so you don't have the risk of losing a stack of 10k scrolls in 1 steal attempt.

Another example is when you're mining there's already so much to look for; if some f*g is coming to cast EV on you or about to triple fs you with some buddies even in a guarded mine like the Minoc mine, if you get the afk macro gump, if you're actually loading the page to check the word to enter it, if a GM is talking to you to see if you're there or if you're afk and got around the afk macro gump somehow, etc. You can't always keep an eye on the valuable ores in your pack to make sure some punk isn't coming to steal them, especially when you only get 1 or 2 at a time anyways so the whole stack can be stolen!

I already had someone steal some of my ore so I called guards but they always teleported onto the tile the thief was on and by then he moved onto the next tile so he made it out with my ores even after calling guards on him :/ and I couldn't kill him myself since I wasn't carrying regs/scrolls so I could carry more ore since it weighs so much. Maybe I'll start carrying some paralyze scrolls to help the noob guards :icon_twisted:

I know you were referring more so to 1 piece valuable items like vanqs, high level armor pieces, etc being stolen but the difference is most of the time how many vanqs or high level armor pieces are you going to carry at a time? 1 vanq, 1 armor set normally, which you will be wearing so it can't even be stolen in the first place! If you aren't wearing it and you're taking it out of your bank to trade it to someone, you have a chance to catch the guy after he steals the first piece and possibly before he banks it. It's not like he can steal the bag with all the armor pieces in it so there's a big difference between the two as far as I'm concerned.

Rabbi Samild Wrote:Stealing is pretty lame considering you can just make and GM 3 thieves in a couple of days. You can basically go to Brit, try to steal and either succeed or fail. If you fail, you just run to pit rune, log off, and on to other char. Rinse, repeat.

Stealing may need further balancing.

I don't know about a couple of days to GM stealing on a few different guys. I've been training stealing on one guy since Sunday and I'm not GM stealing yet, and that's starting from about 50 because of the transfers. Not to mention there are other skills you would want to train on the guy like hiding and stealth.

Now before anyone wants to shoot my head off I'm not complaining about the skill gain, I'm just saying I don't think you can train 3 guys or even 2 guys in a few days when I haven't done 1 yet in 5 days of macroing almost 24 hours a day.

Every day this week I've been checking my total skills from work to see my gains and on average I gain 1 point every 1-2 hours, sometimes not even that. In 8 hours of straight macroing last night I gained 3.5 stealing. When I left for work today at 7am I had 87.0 stealing. Let's see what it is when I get home around 5-5:30.

If you think it's the macro that's bad, it's not the macro. Here's the pseudo code of the macro:

open chest
steal bandaids
pause 5 seconds //could probably be 4 but sometimes it wouldn't work with 4 and i'd end up with a 25 second or 5 minute delay before being able to stealing again because the macro gets stuck somewhere.
if weight >= 300 stones //basically once I steal all the bandaids
put bandaids back in chest

WOW that post turned out a lot longer then I thought when reading everyone else's messages, sorry.

How would log out timers screw with pvp??

You cannot steal checks and you can lose a commodity deed from getting killed just the same.

There are tons of ways to protect yourself from thieves, you just have to pay attention and be clever. I'd suggest you try out stealing on someone else, that way you understand the mechanics of how its set up and you will be able to spot someone who might steal from you easier.

If you are using razor, which it sounds like you are, you can change the timeout delay. Right click on wait for target and select edit timeout. This can be done with wait for gump too and surprisingly not many people know about it.

If stealing is nerfed more than how it already sucks it will just be another Useless skill =/.. People cry so much I mean seriously why would you have a check in your pack for 100k by a bank? The only time i can see people having checks on them is for money duels which is in event area or when they r about to buy something off another player which usually takes 30secs..

On xuo after every tourny I would log on my thief and steal prizeballs from people at bank.. stealing was a lot better there and yet no one complained

Well, I personally switch chars pretty often and I dunno why that fix should affect on me since I don't steal.
Better make it so if you used stealing in last ~5 mins then your log out timer will be 3minutes or something like that.

P.S.
And I agree with Madman. Brit isn't safe zone after all, so if you don't want to risk your stuff put it in container, or do not stay in brit, as simple as that:/

Just do any important trades anywhere but Britain's main bank. There are like 3-4 thieves that I've seen so far and they all hang around Brit bank. Go to some other town, or hell, even Britain's EAST bank.

exactly, i love how people complain we dont gank and lose a whole set of items, yet they complain when a player has like a 45% sucess chance to steal one item from a player.. on xuo you were able to steal 80% and not go crim.. stealing here is pretty usesless i mean look at the effort you need to actually run up to a player whose standing still open there pack and steal without them moving.. a whole 10-12 seconds? it's almost impossible if there not afk

Because if you can't log out and your red and criminnal the people get paralized by other people wouldn't be able to log out and they would page cry and create more problems then solve.. they would actually have to wait and watch helplessly while others paralize them..

As far as the no pits goes, it was already tryed (for a week) and there was a reason why it was replaced again it didn't work out, so i don't know how that can be the best idea ever.

It's a skill I don't know why we would ruin it for people that take the time to macro the skill "stealing" and it's synergies, i love how people cry because they lose there insecurity, it's pretty much ridiculous

If you lose a check of 10k iron to these thieves you must be the biggest fail of the year.

I made a new char to try stealing out, and from what I've heard, I must say it can't be worth it in any way... If you steal money, you only get like 50 gold a time, and the chance of you getting killed is about 50%?

The only thing that problably would be worth stealing is weapons, and how often do you get the chance to use stealing on someone who wears a weapon worth anything?

You cant steal anything that someone is wearing, stealing is useless Smile!

Good to know that you can't steal checks, and for commodity deeds I guess if it can happen when you get killed then that's cool with stealing, except it can happen in a guarded area... Maybe it will be worth my endless hours of GMing it lol.

That's exactly what I was getting at lol. Very rarely is someone going to have a good armor/weapon on them that's not equipped. We aren't all Rabbi running around with 3 black widows Wink

Yes I am using Razor, and since there's no gump for stealing I added a manual delay of 5 seconds since with 4 it screwed up Smile for some of my other macros they do use wait for gump, which is a default action added in when you press a button in the gump actually.

Shade, parles-tu francais? Peut-etre on vas se comprendre l'un l'autre mieux que en anglais!

For anyone who read my last post about macro times, I gained from 87-90.4 from 7am-6pm in case you were wondering.
