new duel stones arena
#13

smoke Wrote:true you do get boxed after a while, but you can also be agressive and fs back too Smile
Yes but these people choose not to be agressive for a reason, they won't go agressive until you're out of mana potions and regs, and is spamming "WTF, LAMER, I AM OUT OF REGS, GIVE ME SPIDER SILK OR I CAN'T HEAL!" ;p You've got to admit that you have been in situations in the past when players have been playing this style and you've had to tell them "STOP HEALING, START FLAMING BACK!" after duelling them for 20-30 minutes without them doing one offensive attack. Bottomline, these people do exist, and they are not going to change their playerstyle just because you want them to, you'll just have to learn to live with them, bigger arenas will make it harder to kill them, but if it removes the lag you're having then it may be worth it. If it is worth it or not will be up to you and everybody else to decide. :]

Smoke Wrote:I mean it wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't lagging us/resending/recounting resources. But if it's there because some people would be imature and since it hasn't happened yet i say we give it a try =/ we never had that problem on xuo not once with the bigger areaed duel stones

As I mentioned above I will mention it to Odium and Ginz and most hopefully they'll be able to create the kind of arena that you guys are requesting. If we decide to do this then we will _not_ remove the old one, just have two for a short while so you can test the lag and see which one you prefer. If the lag would be caused by the small sized arenas then we could just as well make the arenas in the old duel stone-arena a little bigger and fix the problem but still keep the "nice realistic ingame-background" that some players like, and if it is caused by the statics then we'll probably keep the new arena without statics, but which is "green acress-stylish" and most hopefully even more lag-friendly than static background.

Either way, it will just be a test-thing if we decide to do this, then whatever happens during the test period will get to determine what will happen afterwards, but as I mentioned above what's most important to us is that the players like the arenas, and if they are having second thoughts about them - or lag because of them - then we will have to look into it.

I never seen so far a player run around for 30mins without attacking back.. I dont think anyone, any decent pvper will lose their resources fighting someone like that because ul be hitting more than anything so you wont be casting / scrolling.. he wont be hitting you back so mana wasted and eventually ul get a crit or hel run out of mana Smile

No life is complicated only if you make it to be

Gang-Bang Wrote:Pretty easy to figure out if its static or notTongue As I remember Circle of transperancy works only on static items. So if you can't see through with circle turned on - its not static..

Funny my circle of transparency sees through the walls at the duel stone area. Also when I .props it it further confirms that its static.

Seriously though creating a new area means no static items at all... Also I just remembered we had the old duel stone area open like 2 or 3 months ago and people were complaining about how that spot was laggy too. I even remember poking fun at someone while there, claiming they were running UO on a tandy.

I'm not trying to be overly negative about this, I just think the problem lies elsewhere.

Quote:leave free duels opened at night or something

From what I see it normally is open only at nights (EST). Very rarely do I see it open on the weekend during the day. I can't say what it's like during the day monday to friday since I'm not on til late.

Duel Stone Records

Monkey has over 300 duels and Technique has over 150. They aren't there as much as Gang Bang with over 700 duels, but they're still there. Who I don't see on this list is madman though so I don't get how you can say they're never there...

Nope, I don't duel. Thought I'd just show the facts to save an argument though Smile

Shifty Wrote:It's not even a "lag" issue. It's the constant resending due to lost stamina. This happens because the ring is so small. You want to constantly run to prevent your opponent from seeing your arms raise when you cast a spell. But, constantly running to hide your spell causes you to step over your opponent(because the ring is so small), which causes you to loose stamina and in the end that gives you the client resend. If the rings were even two squares bigger it would make a HUGE difference. This never happened on xuo because you were able to still step over ppl until you had like 10 stamina or something. And I'm not talking about xuo2 because I didn't play xuo2 so I dunno how it was on that server. But now, if you have 90 stamina or less it doesn't allow you to step over your opponent. This is when you get the client resend. If stepping over ppl didn't take stamina there wouldn't be a problem at all. Like I said, making the rings only 2 squares bigger would make a huge difference. Why not try a simple basic set up with a couple rings a couple squares bigger and let the players test it out for a while. And not just any players. Let the ppl who actually use the stones test it out.

So, wouldn't it make even more sense to just fix the stamina issue in the first place? Wink I wouldn't mind people not being able to step over other people until they're down to like 10 stamina, that's what I'm used to from there sphere days anyways, and that's how it's suppose to be in my eyes, so I see no problem with that. Plus if that'd fix the "lag issue" without even having to remake the duel stones then that'd probably be the best option in my eyes.

Madman, you've got to listen when I tell you two to stop arguing. I have nothing against neither of you two, but if it's going to get this thread locked then I'd rather temporary ban you both just so that we'll actually be able to have a normal discussion regarding the duel stones in this thread. Behave please. Go answer Smoke in that other thread if you want to argue some more, but I'd strongly suggest that you both stop it now instead, we do not allow flaming, so please try and respect that, I don't care who started it.

Hate

Edit: I've moved the whole discussion between you two to Smokes newly created flaming thread, hopefully that'll be the end of your flame-discussion in this thread. Now lets get back to the duel stone discussion once and for all!

back to the thread, id like to see some new unique colors for some duel arenas because it's getting pretty old to see always the same colors ex: deamon/oceanic/shades green/black diamaond/black rock

lets try something new like siang or limerock Big Grin they're are a lot nicer colors

I wouldn't mind changing the colors around a bit and give the place a "face lift" if we decide to keep the current arena, but I'd recommend that you make a poll about that tho, because if 90% of the players would want to keep it the current way then it would be good to know that before we start changing it around Wink

However I still believe the best option (if it does not get fixed just by fixing the stamina-issue) is to make a new arena at first, test it out, and then decide if we should edit the arena we have now to have bigger arenas, or keep both, or just keep the new arena.

Fixing the stamina thing so you can run over people with more then 10 stamina would be nice. Really annoying that you have to have 100 stamina to run over someone!

I changed so you can walk over players if you have 10 or more stamina.
