im sorry i have not been as active on the forum lately compared to how much i was before but i can make u guys sure i have been ingame answering pages etc everyday, also when i see lots of ppl interactinv (hunting togheter, ganking, or do we on their own i do not want to screw that by hosting altough i do do that somethimes

i get why this topic have been started because i and alot of others did host way more a few days a week ago and have now taken down the hosting a step to a more reasonable level - else the staff would ruin themself - theres alot more to staffing than hosting.[/COLOR]

If maka posted something I'd argue with him too if what I thought he said was dumb. If smoke posts something I agree with I'll post saying 'yea good idea'. You guys are pathetic to jump on the forums and complain as soon as there isn't somebody around to bow to your requests. This doesn't give us a good image either to new players when the forum is flooded with this crap of "I have 120ms lag, this is bullsh*t", or "the staff weren't on for 1 hour and my page wasn't answered". The staff are doing what they can with the free time they have. You guys have never been staff on INX or XUO so don't come and say how much time someone else should put in, especially when you're playing a game you didn't pay 1 cent for. If you want around the clock service go pay 20$ a month for WoW where you can be 1 of 10 million players.

I mean come on smoke, how hard is it to use your teleport skill if you can't move, or to use the physically stuck option in the menu? Do you really have to come on the forums and whine or fuss for 3 hours over it?

No wonder I sit in my house and macro whenever I'm on. If I run around town I have 3 idiots trying to kill me so I have to spam guards and can't do anything there, or if I go to pits people will surround me and insult me.

I think everyone is missing the point, smoke's NOT saying that it's about having more events.

He just noticed that last Easter Weekend there wasn't much staff activity (ie page answering),which I and some others agree on, and he thought he'd bring up and issue which has been blown way out of proportion imo by other ppl.

I think everyone realizes there's life beyond UO, I don't think anyone's arguing that fact. It was a concern that was brought up and that everyone put on their defense mechanism hats to explain why they aren't on alot and how players shouldn't depend on staff when infact that wasn't the original concern...

Looking back at it now, yea it was really funny. I must have been so tired and like half awake to not have walked 10 tiles to pits to go to another town. What made it even funnier was that I flipped out so much on the forums about it right before scare posted the story

You're right, my having been staff at one point doesn't make me 100% right on any topic, but it does give me the privilege of having the chance to see both sides to some things. There were some days I was only on for 1-2 hours because I was busy with school and other days I'd spend 5-6 hours on because I happened to have a lot of free time on those days. And you know what, some people weren't happy with that! I think 5-6 hours in one day is a hell of a lot of time and 1-2 hours is fair. If you expect more that's asking a lot from people who do this for their own fun, which sometimes it isn't when this kind of topic comes up or when people give you a hard time for your decisions in game.

Now before someone suggests it, you can't give out shifts like Odium does 5pm-9pm CET, Tiesto 9pm-1am CET, Shade 1am-6am CET, etc because it's virtually impossible to organize that kind of thing across different time zones and trying to fit in everyone's work/school/sports/etc schedules. And it's just not right to ask someone to stay up until 1am when they might have to get up at 6 or 7 am for school or work the next day. I know nobody suggested this (yet) so I'd like to remind you I started this paragraph with "before someone suggests it..."

Yes, you were 'nice' about insulting me but that doesn't mean you didn't insult me or that I shouldn't come and defend my opinion on something because that is exactly what you are doing. And making it a 'mean' insult won't help things any more. I don't know if you ever had one of these in English class, but we are discussing something where we have different opinions therefore there's a debate starting. Yes, I have read all your posts and all the posts by other people in this thread (unlike you who just says 'I'm not reading that' and continues insulting someone and saying that persons' opinion is wrong without even knowing that persons' full opinion). That said, my opinion on 'lack of staff' hasn't changed from your ongoing flames.

Please take the time to read my posts and you will see I'm not talking about events only. I also mentioned pages and having staff say 'go gank' in at least one of my posts, if not more. Because a staff isn't around every minute of the day doesn't give you reason to flip out. You could have just said something like; I was wondering if anyone thinks we need more staff? Sometimes when I'm on at such and such a time (fill in the blank there) my pages aren't answered for a long time". I think this would have gotten much more positive feedback and avoided this whole tangent we've embarked on and the staff might turn around and say 'hey look, half the players on the forums find we need more staff from 1-2pm CET or 3-5am CET". Maybe this way someone on the staff would have said I can get on at that time and I'll just do my school work a bit earlier, or I'll go to the gym at night instead of right after school and then I can cover this empty time zone. I'm not asking or saying the staff have to change their schedule to accommodate a game, it was just an example of what might have happened if this topic was started in the appropriate manner.

Look at the question "Will staff be available or online in my timezone?" in the FAQ, it says "We try to have staff members from several timezones and at least one staff member online at all times". That's it. They try and can't guarantee it will work out that way.

I'm not saying I never flipped out on the forums, but in retrospect I always saw there was an alternative; wait for an available staff member, send Taran an email if I feel I'm not getting anywhere with a staff member and we need a third point of view, ask questions like 'what did I do wrong' in a calm manner on the forums, etc. Did you try any of these options before making this post? I don't see any forum posts asking something along the lines of 'anybody know how I can get out of this spot in such and such a dungeon?'

Now im not staf or anything and correct me if im wrong STAFF. Im pretty sure that the majority of the time the pages are a bunch of bullshit. So rather than page maybe ask an ingame player. Try this out and youll see that there is plenty of active staff.

[COLOR="RoyalBlue"]many pages could be solved with asking a freind or a fellow player or even in some cases by googeling. (ye i made a verb out of i). However by me saying this i do not say that its good or bad that players page for "minor" issues.

As it somethimes feels better to get a game master response instead of a players.
And its also a easy way to make sure you get a reply (even if it might not always be what you want)

I suggest players to keep paging, for all issues but its always nice to keep in mind if there is no game master online you could always try to ask another player.[/COLOR]
