Well, it's like that. Mounts are carbon-based creatures that rely on water to exist. They are like us, 55-60% water. As you pour the shrink potion onto them, they begin to shrink, becoming more dense. The resulting motion from the atoms of the creature being forced so close together raises the kinetic energy, and thus sensible heat (temperature) of the creature. At this point, the mount goes into the bottle (like those little ship models). Since the ambient temperature is lower than the mount now, the creature begins to radiate as the limit T(t) of [T(animal)-T(ambient)]/d(time) approaches 0.

Now back to the point about the animal being mostly water. The beast supercools as it gives off the thermal energy, passing the freezing point of water (0degC, or 32degF). As many of you know, the density of solid water (ice) is lower than that of water (liquid). This means that the mass is the same, but the volume it occupies is higher or lower, respectively. The vessel (bottle) is rigid and the volume of the material inside (beast) is constant. The mass inside the container remains constant, but the same mass at a lower density means the creature will take up more space.

Thus, as the animal freezes before it returns to ambient temperature. The creature expands and breaking the bottle. And boom goes the dynamite.
