More Mustang Spawns and Info!!!
#25

an additional requirement to tame the mount sounds fun. in fact it will make things even more dangerous. imagine if it require 10karma/fame, some pker could just camp there and hunt you down. and you will have to get the fames back to have a second try.

it's good idea. and again i really don't think the problem is that we don't have enough mounts... i mean doesn't matter if you add 2 more or 100 more, they will still be gone in 60 second. of course i don't mind one bit seeing more mounts myself Big Grin

if you learn how to pvp you can defend yourself btw :/

I like that extra taming requirement idea as well. Also couldn't you add a mount thats truely random shade? Not random bodily fluid color, like actually a totally random color/type spawn. Make it very hard to get to or something. It could end up being an awesome ride for one spawn, then a totally hideous and ugly thing no one would buy next spawn, but at least its a chance for something other then the typical color/types.

Shade Wrote:On an added note; although taming some mounts can be a pain, since they require high taming, not all mounts are like this. As a matter of fact a few of the ones I have added have very very low taming requirements. This was done for that exact reason, so people who find it have a fair chance of taming it just as fast as anyone else. Not to mention some of them can be tricky to get and if you get to them alive you shouldn't have to spend an hour trying to tame it after going through the ordeal of getting to it.

Thats kinda a double edged sword though, because on one hand, yeah you can get the mount quicker. But if your not GM you want to fail, every fail is another rep. I mean if I'm a 85 skill tamer and I run yew or deceit for some reps, get there, and then succeed third attempt, then yeah I'm happy I have the mount but I'm not really gaining skill either.

Jiraiya Wrote:Again, this is exactly my point. People are deliberately hindered from gaining skill by some other players because it is in those players best interest to stop anyone else gaining skill because of the mechanics of how rares spawn. Any ideas about how to do something about this? Or do you like it how it is? If so why? I'd like to hear your actual thoughts on this.

I'm not deliberately hindering others from taming, I just find it silly to master a skill like taming only to produce more GM tamers, thus reducing the amount of spawns that you'll find. I like taming a lot (I consider it my main profession) and am obsessed with mustang collections Wink.

On the topic of how to fix it, I've never encountered a better way to do spawning. My feeling is that any way you change it for the better will have unimagined side effects and will probably end up being on par with how it is now. I think the most important thing is varying the spawner timers so it's not always ending up in a single player's timezone.

Jiraiya Wrote:edit: Thinking on it, you did raise a good point about how stangs move through the market, mounts being passed back and fourth between several tamers so they all gain skill for relatively cheap. If something similar to what I suggested ever happens, there would have to be a change to that, like you can only gain skill first tame, or maybe two tames per ride instead of 5. A tamer should be out in the wilds gaining skill dont ya think? Setting a limit to 2 would mean only the original tamer is going to be able to profit off selling it for skillgain, if they chose to sell it. The rarity of the rides and thus their value would come from three things, the difficulty of finding the spawn, length of the timers set by staff, and if its not a world spawn then the difficulty of the encounter to get it.

Yea, I had concerns about this back when they did it. I don't remember the limit prior, but when the change was made to provide information on the number of masters (and whatever else was changed) the market for mustangs took an absolute dump and prices dropped considerably. The problem with forcing new players to tame wild mustangs instead of pre-tamed is the problem that exists now. Enough GM tamers hunt the spawns that new players would never stand a chance to gain on wild mustangs. That being said, I don't care. When it comes to taming, I'm incredibly selfish (again, it's my main reason for playing). Then again, who still needs me? My time here is nearing it's end...

Jiraiya Wrote:Not by how many hundreds of every type of ride a tamer can stash away from the market in his bank so as not to allow any other tamers to gain skill. Thats a falsely inflated market by a player injecting scarcity. Anyone should be able to collect many hundreds of mounts, if thats their goal, but theres no reason it should be at the expense of everyone else.

Again, I love taming and collecting Wink. But think about what makes gasoline expensive. It's possible to produce many times what is currently being produced, but that would drive the price down, so it's in (everyone except the consumer's) best interest to limit the amount that leaks. Otherwise, what's the point of spending the time taming if everyone else is going to have it and no one will ever find mounts?

I bolded that line because you hit it right on the head with that. Personally, I've only ever seen one person on a rare ride in dangerous areas, and that was pedro. Whats the point of mounts at all if no one uses? No fun having them sitting in bank.

And its also not a lot of fun when someone who works 16 hours a day wants to come home and play a bit, do a little taming maybe. But some kid with no job can just farm stangs spawns all day and leave this other player high and dry. They could both be contributing members of the community, and neither of them has more right to the resource then the other. But one will always take away the others enjoyment of the game simply by playing, to me thats not a problem with the players but a problem with the game. Thats why I'm bringing up this discussion. Thats why this system needs serious re-evaluation.

I just want to see a level playing field for everyone, maybe its a lost cause eh? I'd like to see a taming market where prices are determined not through injecting scarcity, but based upon the actual time/cost of acquisition of the resource. Then you see a market where players compete against each other in pricing, and not in spawn hoarding. This system just seems completely backwards to me, but aparently most of the people here disagree on one level or another. At least I tried Big Grin

Enjoy the suck system people, tamed 8 rides today, dont bother looking for um Big Grin

what about a statue of the creature @ its spawn location? this way there is no undercutting people who have GM taming but new players can still find locations even when the creature is "spawn in progress."

and as far as jariya's point of a kid having a better chance because he sits at home and uo is his full time life. well im the guy who works 16 hours a day and comes home. but i still think the kid who spends more time with the game, does indeed deserve an advantage over me. i guess our opinions differ

Sure, an advantage of course. Time playing allows you to accomplish more, my beef is that one players taming activities actually hinder yours. That player who plays more hours can of course find more spawns, hunt more, finish more encounters to get the rides, etc. All that takes time, which he is rewarded for. Why do his activities have to directly limit yours? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

All this debating and only one worthy idea?

Anyways, the real problem with mounts is a simple one and can't easily be fixed. That problem is greed. People like hoarding items and no matter what we put in place or change, we can't prevent greed. Even with the idea of having mounts take a second requirement, people will just make alts or train for it. Vulcan tried this already, for those who are forgetting the requirement to get the daemon stang. All that did was make people spend a day or so macroing a skill. My point is simply, people will find a way.

That doesn't mean I won't add something new and different to at least slow the hoarding process down but inevitably we will be back on the same debate. What it comes down to is, either there is 1786482340 spawns and they are worth shit so everyone can stumble on one or we keep it similar and players keep hoarding shit without any consideration for the community. Seriously, if you have 50 of a certain stang why the hell would you keep taming it? That isn't bragging rights, thats something to be embarrassed about...

Its common sense: More you have, More you Want!

Some people like money.
Some people like skills.
Some people like mounts.
And some people like kills.

Edit: Also taming and hunting is the only thing to do atm, you craft no one buys, you a pk no one to kill ( at last not so easy to find someone to kill)

The greed is actually amplified in some ways by the system in which mounts are spawning. The time spent to aquire the spawns in a fiercly competitive and secretive environment is not on par with what people are willing to pay for the product of that investment of time/skill. Your right it is simple. Players who spent 200 hours searching for some spawns arent gunna let the mounts go for less than extortionate sums. The consumers do not want to pay that much for something that isnt any more useful then your standard llama. They are just pretty, thats it.

The number of spawns has little to do with it, its accessability. I agree though, no need to have more then like 2 or 3 of any mount. Why not sell off the excess? Oh yeah because then other people can use um for skill and cut in on your action, exactly what this entire thread has been about.
