Player-initiated anti-macro gump
#1

I wonder if it would be possible to implement a command that would allow a player to trigger an anti-macro check for another player. It seems like I frequently find people that are non-responsive when mining, and the anti-macro gump doesn't seem to occur frequently enough while mining to give them any concern.

So (in theory), if you suspect someone is afk resource-gathering, you could invoke this command. The system would do its normal check to verify they're actually gathering resources, and then display the anti-macro gump.

To prevent abuse, you could only allow a player to trigger one of these every hour or so.

If it work with abuse prevent can be a good idea...But the antimacro gump already work well, sometimes it take 1 hour to appear, but its appear.

If you find someone who you think is afk, page and we can send the antimacro gump to them.

Yeah, I was just thinking that admins have enough to do without being bothered with pages like that.

Thanks though Smile

1) Snoop Miner. If he has good stuff, proceed to step 2.
2) Send him the anti-macro gump.
3) Wait for him to click it to go to the website.
4) FS to death without fear of guards.
5) Run away and bank your loot.

I couldn't have a lot of experience with it since I can't trigger the anti-macro gump on someone else. I do have a lot of experience with creative thinking though, and that's the first exploit I came up with.

Thanks for the feedback. Any suggestions on how to make the feature less abuseable, but still effective? I've been watching someone afk-mine in Kendall for about half an hour now. While I appreciate the free ore appearing at his feet, it's an example of the infrequent nature of the anti-macro gump.

[Edit] And I did report it... just sitting in the queue still.

You can't know for sure the person is really AFK though. I know many players just ignore other players because they are browsing the forums or something at the same time.

A staff member will read it sometime when you page. The page will remain in the queue when you logged out. So even if the person didn't get caught that time, he will be watched and caught an other time.

I understand you don't know whether or not the person is AFK. Hence the interest in a way to trigger the anti-macro gump, which can't be ignored. To Sindern's earlier feedback, maybe the request would just force the anti-macro gump to be sent sometime within the next N minutes, so that a potential abuser wouldn't know whether it's been sent or not.

His macro seemed to slowly mine in a circle, two spots at a time, and occasionally calling "guards". After a short while the ore just started piling up at his feet. This went on for quite a while.

On the upside, he contributed a large amount of ore to my bank box, and dutifully kept saying "guards" so I wouldn't have to.

For what it's worth, I was mining furiously during this entire time, and never received the anti-macro gump myself.

Anyway, I guess it's not important. Thanks for the feedback.

I usually macro with UO on my 2nd monitor while I do other stuff on the main screen. When I mine, I keep an eye out for the anti-macro gump and only mess with my macro when the gump pops up or if I need to go smelt.

I usually get overweight from mining one spot that I stand in since my macro mines multiple squares, so sometimes instead of mining, then running to the forge every minute, sometimes, I let the ore fall at my feet, then walk it to the forge and smelt a lot at once. That is if some jerk doesn't come by and steal it. I was alone in a mine doing this with someone and he would walk over near me, hide, stealth over and grab my ore, then stealth away again to smelt it. Like I'm too stupid to figure out he's taking it.
