stealing.
#1

im not sure if you have plans to change this but i'll toss it out there.

will stealing be fixed soon?

i want my character to be a dirt squrrel bottom feeder. who's really no good for any thing besides living his life the easy way. killing newbies and taking free money. but right now i've only had time to work on my cash flow skills. but none of them work. for instance begging skill makes you 100gp every 15minutes gm'd, stealing doesnt even work, and my stats are so low i couldnt even kill a zombie. It would be nice to see the stealing skilll fixed. i plan to rp a pirate soon if everything goes well. so this skill would fit in perfectly.

I hope to see this added very soon too.

I really like that all these small skills have been added to the game. On IN, we didnt really have any of these like Begging, Provocation, Stealing didnt really work, Cartography.

I think it should be made so that if you beg from NPCs (one "gift" from each NPC), you should be able to make about 1k+ per hour. Yes it sounds like alot, but within a few days of casual hunting or mining you could be making far more than that, so its not like its an easy way to gain skill. Its really only for those who actually want to do it, since it is pretty time consuming and tedious.

For Stealing, I think it should be made to where you can go to an NPC and they will have one item that you could find in their shop***. Then a GM thief would have like a 2% (1/50) chance to actually become a criminal, and like a 33% (1/3) chance to get the item at all. That means that on any given NPC, he would, on average, have to try 3 times to get the item, and would thus have actually a 6% (~1/17) chance of becoming a criminal. If a thief had the guts to consecutively steal from each NPC he passes, he should be able to make about 1.5-2k per hour. If hed rather bank every one or few items to be safe, then that would slow him down to about 1k per hour.

Something like this would allow these Low-down, Dirty RPers ( ) some kind of a reward, but no so much that it is actually "easy" (UO-wise, not in-game effort wise).

*** A mage might have 10 sulfurous ash, a blacksmith might have ringmail sleeves or a sword, a tailor might have 10-20 pieces of cloth, etc etc. It should be random and the value should change (like maybe sometimes an leather-worker might be carrying a studded tuning, which can sell for a few hundred GP, and at other times he might just be carrying some hides).

Ill add more when I get back from class!

*edit*

K, back now. ?

So yeah, it would obviously be a pretty simple task to get around the criminal thing, because you could have a friend follow you around while you steal, and whenever you come criminal, just loot the stuff off you. However, what pair of friends wants to split a measely (at most)after an hours worth of work (also depending on how many times they became criminal and had to wait it out)? So I think that would also scare away the "get-rich-quick"-ers, and keep it so that only those who really want it could do it.

And maybe even have the occasional Ruin weapon, higher circle scroll, or even rare-colored clothing item from NPCs, that could only be stolen with GM healing (because anyone would naturally be a little more cautious when carrying such an item, so it would take more skill to steal), to spice up the life of a thief! I think it would just make it that much more fun to do, without it being anywhere near as profitable as most other professions. Plus, the fact that you might only get one such item every 15 strait minutes of stealing, would also make it not worth the time to do it.

good idea's.

i like your stealing idea's lindenwood and some of your begging idea's. I dont think you should only be allowed to steal off NPC's if thats the direction your going in. most sphere servers you were able to steal off players based on your skill level. most of the time you went criminal, but if you were a GM it was hard to be caught.

also flagging a theif on the bounty system would be be cool. theives deserve it.

Lidenwood, I don't like your idea at all. Why would you steal from NPCs in the first place when there are alot of players you could steal from? and 2k/hour is not really a great profit. You could make one hundred times more by stealing money and valuable items from other players at brit bank.

Yeah I want to steal from players!
But they cannot add this until a way to block easyuo/injection scripts is found. Otherwise it will be out of control and abused.

I didnt say you could only steal from NPCs, nor did I mean to imply it. Of course you could steal from players. However, I think you should almost always at least notice it, provided a few things (maybe 100 intelligence, and reasonably high stealing). I think it should be really hard to steal things from players, though. I remember on IN there was a stealing phase and stuff would get stolen all the time, even out of your hands, and it made it so nobody wanted to use anything nice.

Anyone remember INR? Where people would open your packs and steal your weapon THE second you disarmed it? Imagine that ten fold because a lot of people here are better with making those types of scripts. Stealing never really worked on 51a, and when it did it was buggy as hell. I think stealing should stay disabled.

I, however would like to see stealing be used on dead blue corpse. Someone died in town, and based off your stealing skill, determine how much weight/item you can loot. Just my opinion. -Aeorox

There is no question about enabling stealing or not, it will be in. We just need time to balance the crim timer and the items that you can steal. Personally I think that the skill is a bit to over powered as RunUO out of the box.

hows begging work atm? is it only 100gp per 15 minutes? and im guessing it only works on npcs?

i think if it is 100gp it should at least be raised to 250gp so you can earn 1000gp an hour.
#12

*Bump* Would really like to know how much you earn from begging right now? Becuase i don't want to macro it if it turns out useless. Oh and does it work that you beg from different npc's and each one pays only a lil bit. Or does it have a limit like you can only beg up to 150gp every 15 minutes?

Thankyou! Big Grin
