Ore converting.
#1

I think that maybe old copper / silver / shadow etc. should have the abilty be converted into regular iron ore. You need more skill to use mine / use it, and it's useless. Atleast this way people could use it.

Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Its not like the ore is useless, just make something and sell it to the vendors with it. How would having a precious metal just magically turn into iron make any sense?

Old Copper, Shadow, etc is just useless to have.

Atleast let us sell it to vendors for 3 or 4 gold.

Oh, so Ultima Online has to make sense now. I suppose we should remove dragons, casting spells would be unheard of, oh an resurrection... I can't do that! It's an idea to help make something a little more useful. What I'm saying is I made more cash when I had poor mining than I do now.

You can't resurrect? I do it daily. I have a pet dragon, also. We play poker while I ride my llama.

Don't you know UO is just like real life? That dude is a genius.

This really isn't a very smart idea in my opinion.

The point of it is... Well I just don't know what the point is and how it benefits members of the shard.

The point is, ores that aren't iron crafted don't sell for anything more than iron. And their ingots are worthless. You can sell iron ingots to player vendors for 4gp. You can't other ingots. Players also buy iron ingots for 6 to 6.5gp. Players don't buy other ingots because they're worthless when it comes to skill gain.

So in conclusion the purpose is to actually put some purpose back to ores that should have more use than regular iron ores.

I agree somewhat with Diabolical, not really about the converting the ore, maybe another way

Im in the middle of blacksmithing and i got all my ore by mining and friends help mining. When i was a low level i carted back 200+ iron ingots, now with a much higher skill, only 75, im lucky if i can cart back 100, and i dont wanna just throw the rares on the ground to empty my pack.

Maybe as another option to diabolicals idea is an ability for the player to turn off the chance to mine rare ores and just mine iron?? and then when they want turn it back on.

To say it short
All bad idears
What you need is a tweak of the vendors, so you can sell all items you can craft no matter the material for the same price as iron, that way, miners can always get the pirce for any ingots as if it was sold as iron.

Need pots or stangs drop me a PM, i got it all.

Reason why everything turns into a flame war.

It makes sense...the higher your skill the less likely it is to mine iron. Its makes it hard to get any iron to macro or live off of. As far as changing the ore to convert probably not happening. Making them sell for more money would! These are ores that demands higher skill in both mining and blacksmithing so why shouldn't they sell for more. The vendors would sell them for more also and then players can choose to buy them. You go to the bs vendor and you have a chance to buy full shadow plate. Might be sweet! I think that will also add to the reason on why you need to do mining more of a income the higher you get, that you can train blacksmithing also Smile Diabolical has a good basis for a idea. Should at least be looked into.. maybe something can be worked out. What impact would it have on the economy? I personal don't think a big one... crafters are going to be rich anyways

I just think that higher level ingot-crafted armors should sell for more. On IN1, it was pretty common that when you were training BS, you would make daggers out of iron, and gorgets out of everything else, even up to materials like Ice and Rose (whatever gave you ~45 AR for a full suit on IN1). That gave alot more use out of the lower ore types, and definately made it worth it to save them. Because of the increased profit of gorgets (especially old copper and shadow, IIRC), at a time when iron ingots sold for 5-6GP each, old copper was selling for 10-12! Much better than here where they are pretty much worthless!

I think its a good idea. Just make it come with a penalty, lets say you bring the ore to a NPC and he changes it over with the "Philosophers Stone" or something, but the cost of transformation is 25% of the ore, so 100 old copper ingots, yields 75 iron ingots... Or something along those lines.
