There will be a delay added to spam, much like the UO client spam filter but it will be implemented server side. I do not have the specs for this but I will try to get it in as soon as possible.

This filter is supposed to prevent [retard] use of the spam feature while still enabling players to use it in the intended way.

Sorick Wrote:Why would they put that in?! i think tis kinda lame to run around spamming every spell in a fight. I think that doesnt take much skill...

Heh, if you think that doesn't take much skill you shouldn't have posted anything in this thread as you don't know anything.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Sorick meant it doesn't take skill to make a macro key to use the .wop command Sombrax.
I don't know, I have tried this stuff out but it just doesn't feel right to me... It is kind of like needing an advantage or something. Reminds me of when vent and teamspeak started becoming popular. I hated this because it just really takes alot of challenge out of the game. Of course this is just my opinion.
Back in the day you had to fight while tabbing back and forth on a messaging program if you needed help or something. That was a challenge. I am just all old now and miss the hardships that uo used to have. Spell spamming just seems like some new way to get an advantage which isn't really needed if the pvp is balanced.
All it comes down to is remembering what people typically do in certain situations and what would be common sense. That is my perspective of it anyways... which leads me to wonder, how often people who are really experienced in xuo combat get fooled by this?
If someone says never then I really must ask what is the point.
So yeah, I am not complaining but stating my views and trying to inspire some conversation to possibly convince me as to why this was ever added. I just don't get the point really.
Again I am not complaining. So everyone stay calm. Everything will be okay kids.

sphere pvp never has and never will be balanced. any kind of combatant in any game or life would be foolish not to take advantage of any edge they have.

i hate it too tbh, but thats sphere.

If it's there and XUO players defend it it's because of something. I've been playing with spam for a lot of time, and it gives a lot of new possibilities to the pvp, without it, pvp would just be... dull.

Also seen it before, in some other sphere shard, TDS if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway any sort of spamming, be it "guards", "vendor sell" every second, or power words, bothers me and takes away from the game experience.

The least that could be done would be giving us an option to filter such spam, so those that disagree with this feature could live happily without getting their eyes sore.

BTW, there is definately not a timer. I just had somebody run around me at Brit Bridge, spamming 3 words every ~.5 seconds. Eventually I just left because it was more annoying than anything.

And to be honest, I thought it was going to be timed so that you could only say one work every 1(eh) or 2(preferrably) seconds. That seems like it is much more realistic and original than just spamming a bunch of words to hide your real spell. I actually would have gone with that, because not only does it make sense, but it still does definately add an extra edge to PvP.

It would be like, you can say one fake thing every, say, 2 seconds. If you try to say it within 1 second of casting, the spell would fail.

Basically, to spam so people can't see the real spell is lame. To say fake spells to keep people dancing around would be a definate plus to PvP.

I doubt they will get rid of the spamming, but I think having fake spells that are actually "realistic" and relatively strict timer was implemented, that it would actually add a fun touch. But so far all Ive seen it used for is ganking.

But, think of it like this. You are fighting somebody, and you get down to 50 HP. You see "Kal Vas Flam," and wonder "is that real, or is he bluffing?" You would then have to make the decision to Emergency-Heal, or just keep healing normally.

Nobody would be able to say 5 spells at once without sounding like they are just mumbling as fast as they could. For word-based spells (I.E. words of power), it would only make sense that you would have to at least say it somewhat clearly for it to work (hense the ~2 second timer).

*edit*

And BTW, have you guys tried PvP without spamming? Everyone tells the IN guys to at least try XUO PvP before hounding it, but have you guys tried IN-style PvP before dubbing it "boring?"

*edit*

And yes PvP will always be somewhat imbalanced. But that should be because of the way the game is set up (Armor too strong for weapons typically used, weapons too strong for armor used, magic is way over powered, etc).

So far, IN PvP was the most balanced that Ive seen. It was worth it to use good armor, good weapons, good potions, and keep a few scrolls with you. XUO PvP seems to be about 80-90% based on scrolls and potions, but armor and weapons are almost useless, from what Ive seen AND what Ive heard from XUO PvPers.

IMO this spam tihng is just hella gay and u still can win without it...Its np u only have to cast the good spell
#22

There is no timer on the spam right now as you can just do it with whisper/say/sayu etc...Maka said he is working on a filter so that they will only be able to use .wop Kal Vas Flam etc, so that the spam isn't so fast.

After IN died I played a few shards that used spam, and got used to it, there is something to spam you have to watch the anims carefully and listen for sounds and take into account your opponents general psychology...its about tricking them or you getting tricked, there is a lot to it really.

It's not that hard to see the spells. Once you get used to it it won't be anything but annoying. Tongue

When I'm around 100 mana I light-NOS you and I do this like 5 or 6 times (with quite some time in between), to make sure that you get the drift of what I'm doing. You will most likely start healing after my light has come in, cause you expect me to FS and you rather not be at that HP.

What do you do when I light-SPAM you now? You will most likely heal if you have saw the pattern above. I can repeat my light-SPAM move a few times to make you waste your mana, cause you are aware of that my offense might come. When you've healed about 3-5 times, you realize that you cant continue healing, I'm just messing with you, thats when I'll nos you.

It's really just one example but I will try to write up a few more tomorrow, quite tired now:/ I promise that I will give you some insight of what you can do with fake spells that you have not yet seen. You might even find it exciting and contributing to the PvP.
