I'm not sure about the training. I was on XUO through most of it's life and on IN for a little bit. It didn't seem too bad, but eh..I just let it run while I'm in class or away. I can't really judge time on that.

Combat skills and "every day" fairly easy and fast, but skills such as craft, will be a lot harder. We would want people to work for the items and skills as it tends to be a lot more rewarding both for the players and the server in the long run. But a newbie needs to be able to get up and running fast too, so that he wont be bored to death with macroing.
