Important news about the server
#13

Make a macro that plays a sound file each time there is an event announced. Leave it running when you macro afk but would like to join an event if one is announced. Big Grin

I started making such gump thingy in the past already but never finished it. Might take a closer look at it when i finally get time to test my new changes (fixes) to the eventsystem.

I like the idea of the gump, but think there should be an option so that you can disable it.

What's a gump going to do if your macroing a skill that has its own gump anyway? Most people use razor for afk macroing and when that macro is crafting, razor would likely just close the gump. Besides my own events, I have no idea how you could possibly miss any other staffs events because they spam my journal so much it sometimes explodes. Bottom line is, if you are afk, no matter what we do, if you are afk you won't see it!

Ad Kamos said, if you want to be afk and still be aware when something is announced, simply add a sound to play, which is very easy to do in EasyUO or make a razor macro that reacts to a journal entry.

I think anything that takes away from forum activity is a bad idea. People should come to the forums frequently since many important issues are discussed here, like this one(?) and a discussion like this would never work the same in game. Giving people an excuse not to come the forums is not good.

I think you guys are taking what they say the wrong way. All you have to do is add a message like when a GM responds to a page, so whenever there is an event it just sends a message to that person. Also, make it able to be toggled on/off so if you don't want it you can turn it off. I doubt adding this feature would hurt anything, or make less people use forum.

I like it. Smile I should also be able to send those little message gumps to people without them paging.

Thanks for the support... I was starting to think there was a plot against my fabulous idea ^^

RE events:
It's hard to give a warning well in advance of a tour since staff don't always know if they'll be able to host a tour. Ex: Monday night a staff says Saturday morning they will host an event. Friday night they end up breaking a leg and get stuck in the hospital all day Saturday. All this causes is people complaining the event wasn't hosted as promised.

I also see staff do a broadcast for at least 10-15 minutes before any event and there's a message every 1 minute or so. That's more then enough to get the attention of those playing UO. As for those who aren't ingame and just look at the forums, well that's your fault really for not having UO open behind your web browser, dunno what else to tell you.

RE important ingame changes:
I've previously suggest to implement something along the lines of a message of the day gump that only shows the first time you log in after an update. The message would be a simple gump showing the list of changes with a close button. The best thing about doing this is that when there's an important change, nobody can complain they didn't know since it's right there in your face the first time you log on after an update. If you don't read it that's yoru fault.

RE static auctions:
I think we've pretty much covered that in another thread and most people seem to agree the forums is the best overall place, but something could be added around banks and in pits to tell players to check the forums for auction news. Maybe we can even make a new section for auctions so you don't have to look through all the forums for auction threads.
