If we fold and disable item x from being stolen, soon enough people will want item y the same way. It will start a crazy chain reaction and before you know it the only thing stealable in game will be apples. Well until some apple picker comes to the shard and wants that changed too.
Like with everything there are two sides to the argument Shade. Yes, you do have to be careful with noobied items and your valuable items in general, but you can't always keep an eye on every item in your backpack.
My previous example of getting a commodity deed for 10k iron or a check for 100k stolen would really suck. But it won't happen with every item. Like anything stackable you can't steal it all in one shot so you don't have the risk of losing a stack of 10k scrolls in 1 steal attempt.
Another example is when you're mining there's already so much to look for; if some f*g is coming to cast EV on you or about to triple fs you with some buddies even in a guarded mine like the Minoc mine, if you get the afk macro gump, if you're actually loading the page to check the word to enter it, if a GM is talking to you to see if you're there or if you're afk and got around the afk macro gump somehow, etc. You can't always keep an eye on the valuable ores in your pack to make sure some punk isn't coming to steal them, especially when you only get 1 or 2 at a time anyways so the whole stack can be stolen!
I already had someone steal some of my ore so I called guards but they always teleported onto the tile the thief was on and by then he moved onto the next tile so he made it out with my ores even after calling guards on him :/ and I couldn't kill him myself since I wasn't carrying regs/scrolls so I could carry more ore since it weighs so much. Maybe I'll start carrying some paralyze scrolls to help the noob guards :icon_twisted:
I know you were referring more so to 1 piece valuable items like vanqs, high level armor pieces, etc being stolen but the difference is most of the time how many vanqs or high level armor pieces are you going to carry at a time? 1 vanq, 1 armor set normally, which you will be wearing so it can't even be stolen in the first place! If you aren't wearing it and you're taking it out of your bank to trade it to someone, you have a chance to catch the guy after he steals the first piece and possibly before he banks it. It's not like he can steal the bag with all the armor pieces in it so there's a big difference between the two as far as I'm concerned.
Rabbi Samild Wrote:Stealing is pretty lame considering you can just make and GM 3 thieves in a couple of days. You can basically go to Brit, try to steal and either succeed or fail. If you fail, you just run to pit rune, log off, and on to other char. Rinse, repeat.
Stealing may need further balancing.
I don't know about a couple of days to GM stealing on a few different guys. I've been training stealing on one guy since Sunday and I'm not GM stealing yet, and that's starting from about 50 because of the transfers. Not to mention there are other skills you would want to train on the guy like hiding and stealth.
Now before anyone wants to shoot my head off I'm not complaining about the skill gain, I'm just saying I don't think you can train 3 guys or even 2 guys in a few days when I haven't done 1 yet in 5 days of macroing almost 24 hours a day.
Every day this week I've been checking my total skills from work to see my gains and on average I gain 1 point every 1-2 hours, sometimes not even that. In 8 hours of straight macroing last night I gained 3.5 stealing. When I left for work today at 7am I had 87.0 stealing. Let's see what it is when I get home around 5-5:30.
If you think it's the macro that's bad, it's not the macro. Here's the pseudo code of the macro:
open chest
steal bandaids
pause 5 seconds //could probably be 4 but sometimes it wouldn't work with 4 and i'd end up with a 25 second or 5 minute delay before being able to stealing again because the macro gets stuck somewhere.
if weight >= 300 stones //basically once I steal all the bandaids
put bandaids back in chest
WOW that post turned out a lot longer then I thought when reading everyone else's messages, sorry.
