I would make it so vendor items can be auctioned from within the vendor. The listing item listing would be ingame/online, however the only way to place bids would be ingame at the vendor. There would also need to be a buy-it-now price and an auction limit for people who want to pay more directly at the vendor to get it instantly.
Why do all that then just keep the players vendors and leave the headache of scripting all of this away?
