Yeah, an auction house would pretty much ruin player vendors unless done correctly.
I would make it so vendor items can be auctioned from within the vendor. The listing item listing would be ingame/online, however the only way to place bids would be ingame at the vendor. There would also need to be a buy-it-now price and an auction limit for people who want to pay more directly at the vendor to get it instantly.
