I can totally relate to what you are saying.. You have no idea how much I can relate to your first post.. lol That SAME EXACT scenario happened to me .. The brit gy.. wrong.. the insta kill monster inside a small ass cage... So yea.. See for me I started on XUO/NOS where hunting was straight forward and simple... However.. Here on INX you must pick and choose your battles according to skill level. Now after I received an ass beating in wrong and had to run for 45 minutes to town.. I knew I had to take a different approach to hunting. So basically here is a good little bit of information..

Hunting by Location..
About all dungeons are over crowded with shit ass monsters no one gives a shit to kill and are there to just annoy.. Almost all dungeons have such a winding retard maze within them it makes you not want to hunt there..
Example: Shame i guess you could say level 7? lol.. I died and my only way out was a 6 island hop with invis teleporters everywhere.... Now after spending 2 hours getting to the location and then to die with no way out and invisible tele pads infront of you that you try passing for 2 hours to get just out of the dungeon so you can run for another 45 minutes back to town.. Not very appealing but whatever.. "Pick and choose your battles"
All and all man you just need to find some nice good locations to hunt. Bring a partner and the correct supplys. You will find as you find better spots and bring the correct resources things will get alot easier... Just like macroing your character.. getting started sucks!
