When talking about lag there's a lot that can influence this, more so then just the server hardware or connection.
In Canada all the ISPs (Bell, Videotron, Rogers, etc), throttle internet connections to a max up/down of 30Kbps between certain hours (I think this is between 5pm and 2am) regardless of your internet connection speed. Whether it is 56k dial-up internet, or Videotron's "ultimate speed" 50Mbps connection it's capped at 30Kbps.
If you don't have one of these main ISPs, but a smaller company like AEI (like me), your connection is still throttled because these smaller companies rent the lines from the major ISPs and because they throttle the connections, the smaller companies connections are in turn throttled as well.
Something else that influences this is what you are running on your PC (I've seen smoke's, it's full of useless sh*t), and if you have msn, internet browsers, etc open, it all takes away from your own computer resources and uses some of your throttled bandwidth.
Knowing is half the battle.
By the way, isn't dueling for gear the exact same as dueling for loot asides from the scrolls, pots and regs?
