Think about it rationally. You spend half an hour collecting the fertile dirt to take off 23 hours of growth. That is totally fair. Its clear that since you have 50 plants growing as it is that plants are too easily grown.
Its your choice to spend half an hour per plant to remove a growth period off them or not. Personally if I was that into the plants I would be fine with 30 minutes of work to get seeds a day (23 hours) sooner.
Oh and fyi there is another way to take a growth period off.
Having 50 plants growing is the result of over 5 weeks of smaller crops and harvesting them for seeds, cross pollenating for new seeds, etc. Was it hard? No. Keeping track of it was much harder before the seedbox. Now that part is easier. But its just plants lol. Who wants to spend 30 minutes to get only enough dirt for only one plant? These arent blood diamonds here man, its only deco. Theres not exactly a big market for them. I see it more like a minigame within UO, its fun but ultimately useless. Also if you have a small crop say 10 plants going, you're looking at 5 hours to farm up enough dirt for them. So say you spend 2 hours, and get enough dirt for 4 plants. Well great, now your cycle is messed up because you cant cross them with the ones which wont flower till a day later.
This is pretty irrelevant really, its just something that would be nice for growers. I dont see a need for it to be "difficult". If it was an hour to farm up enough of it to fill 10 bowls I'd prolly do it then. I'm still going out and spending time being active at least. Or if it was buyable from a vendor at least I'm spending money which takes time and resources to get. If more of it dropped you might even see people farming it up and selling it on their vendors in the mall to growers. I'd buy it rather then hunt those things. Thats all I gotta say about it :/
