If it copied the settings from phpBB, then avatars are disabled by default. the reasoning behind this is that the avatar takes up space that doesn't really matter, while the signature makes each post longer, which makes the threads longer and more bothersome to scroll through.

I *hate* it when someone decides to paste their whole vendor inventory, plus a screenshot of the minimap and the building in their signature, then post one-word responses to every post as a way to advertise.
