I like some of the old methods of making armor before we left sphere.
Like to make oceanic, you had to be on a boat (lil' tiny thing) and you would fish up sea serpents that could pretty much 2 hit you, then you had to kill them to get a few scales or something that you could smith into Oceanic Platemail.
Or the demons would drop bones that you could turn into a strong Demon Bone armor. That's actually not a bad idea to have a strong version of Bone Armor since everyone wears platemail. EVERYONE. There's no variation in what people are wearing except the color and the clothes they toss over it.
