Oh well, even if it was worth 1000 hours of gameplay I probably would've got pissed off and taken revenge instead of removing my character or quitting the shard.

Well, if he figured loosing 5 great gears would make him quit then perhaps he shouldn't have resuited with 4 more great gears after he died the first time? Because it does not sound like it was 1v1 duels.
Anyways, removing your character or quitting because of that somebody kills you is still in my eyes weak. I think that if you want to cut down on your UO-time because of school or work, then that's great, good decission, but if you decide to quit because you died, then I think you're weak and not really a "fighting person" but instead somebody who gives up if he dies too much.
