It is by all means possible for a character to become self-sufficient, however, this should be quite difficult. If you want to master combats (for pvp and pvm), crafts, resource gathering skills, taming, etc (everything basically) then it should take you a damn long time! You shouldn't be able to do everything in a month and never need anyone else for anything.

This whole difficulty concept that skills should require such a huge investment of time baffles me. Although i don't advocate starting with all skills at 100, (as first time players still need to "earn it") i don't think i'll ever understand why someone would insist on a long and protracted time period spent gaining skills. i've played on dozens of shards and all have one thing in common - they fail or thier hijacked or as in our own little example closed to be merged and rescripted. that sense of accomplishment and pride i felt the first time i mastered a skill has long since passed and it can never to be relived. i have to ask, how much time have you put into your skill gain only to lose a sizable part of it? how much of your time have you lost? i came to XUO when ONO finally failed. i thought XUO would be stable but here i am at INX - third shard in a year. how long did INR or XUO run steady before this? and the time before that? the point is we probably won't have "a damn long time!".

i just thought of something.. this server aint going to be good with all these wars. XUO VS. IN.

oh i disagree "XUO VS. IN" might be just the ticket to greatness, it may very well provide the spark that will unite XUO'ers or INR'ers with a common cause, i see friday night shard wars in the future.

if u ask me, we should cancel this "project" and reopen the shards separate.

i'd go back to the way it was, but we've come too far to stop, much too much time and effort has been spent to quit now (just like our skills). it might be nice to put the shards up while we wait, but thats probably just another unneeded burden on our staff.

the REAL XUO was not a shitty shard, matter of fact was the best shard I've played. It's the same with you dudes, the REAL IN:R is what you guys want and you believe is the best shard, and the reality to this all is, you can never construct a shard like the original, you can never make a duplicate which can beat the original if the original was where you enjoyed yourself the most. not even the towns decoration, look, shard's Admins/GM's dedication can rebuild a shard the way it was before, infact, it's the players who you played with originally and the environment which made that shard as good as it was.

thats the most lucid, thought out post of yours i think i've read and i have to agree. none of us will ever be able to recapture that "original" feeling. no follow up shard can ever live up to the first one. ask some of these guys about NOS
