Stealing
#1

Well hey guys its QuadraX or Shocker, and there is one problem i encountered during a trade in Britain. I was trading a daemon mustang and when trading the mustang the other person(Arka) canceled the trade. Banan stole the daemon mustang and now i was robbed of a daemon mustang and 45k. At first i was pretty mad. The thing is about stealing is that it is a harder chance to steal only if the item is heavy. A shrunken mustang is not that heavy which makes it fairly easy to steal. I have no problem with stealing but i believe that stealing should be dependent on the rarity of the item not the weight. A daemon mustang is very hard to acquire because first you have to wait for it too spawn and getting through the obstacles. Even after that it takes a while to tame. I think that with the time and effort spend into getting the daemon mustang was totally wasted. Stealing should be tweaked. It is something i have finally encountered and believe that the GMs and Admin/Owner looked over the fact that mustangs were very easy to steal. Again i believe that stealing should be dependent on Rarity of the item and not the weight. Discord had told me that stealing depended on weight. Well thanks for reading and i hope that this issue will get fixed. Now i do not have a daemon mustang or 45k and im pretty sad. REMEMBER THE STEALER WAS BANAN AND ACCOMPLICE ARKA

just so you know shocker, arka is atlas and whoever edward is nearly 100% is in ghost and yet you ally up with them and see how they betray you? oh the irony..

Don't even start on that crap. If you make rare items really hard to steal, do you have a thief? ever stolen anything of value? if so you would know that if you remove the odd chance of stealing something nice every so very rarely without actually dying! and the item automatically being returned to the owned (yes, this part makes stealing FREAKING HARD), you might as well just remove stealing from the game.

Another important thing is random-stealing has been disabled here, so you HAVE to snoop then steal, cant just steal on a person and steal a random item. The profit of stealing is so low compared to anything else and your 45K you can make in a less than 15mins by going hunting. How ever for the thief, the 45K will be only thing of value he will see, IF he can sell it!, for the next few weeks.

People just have to be more careful, UO is all about risks, thats why you lose everything when someone random decides to kill you outside of the city, should should you be 150% safe inside the city? you don't run around with your rare mounts on you when hunting in destard either do you?

If peoples frustration like this start to change how things work, we all might as well just install Insurance and disable skills like stealing, or turn it into a pure RP server and remove PVP, because the odd find of for the scavangers like thieves, red player killers and such is what IN is all about.

Just go get another mount, the risk of you getting another, specially if its only worth 45K can't be that high.

you can't make 45K in less than 15 minutes. But i get what you mean. 45K isn't the end of the world.

but i think the lesson here is not to do business with scoundrels.

you can get stealing pretty easy with the 4 GM skills to start.. I'm not saying it should be changed but maybe less quantity when you successfully steal would fix this issue?

What you have to understand is, there is no issue. people losing a single item because they are careless, and does big money trades in the middle of brit bank or other crowed areas is not a reason to redo an entire skill class.

It's super easy to prevent anyone from stealing anything! just drop it and go get another horse.

I understand carelessness out of their own fault, although you can make a new character and have all the required skills for stealing snooping and stealthing as soon as you join the shard here or make a new character.. regardless of the skill it's high enough success chance to steal a lot of stuff for not training any skills really. With 40 stealing people in my guild were able to steal 15 out of 20 mana pots from me fairly easily (doing tests ofc) that's a large number for such a small amount of skill. Imagine from the stone the success chance and how much you get out of it?
#8

Trust me you can't much out of it, because if you was to test it further you would also notice that stealing 15 out of 20 pots only happens once every 20-30 steals! and out of those many steals you only don't get criminal about 20%-25% times at GM stealing! there has to be a high risk / high reward because 80% of the time thieves get instant wacked and the loot isn't even left on their body to grab later when people are carelessly AFK, but no! items gets teleported back to their backpack even though you make a succesful steal, but if you die while crim... no items.

Can't you just trade out of your bank box? It's not stealable that way right?

Personally I think stealing is fine as it is.
#10

Just use your brain and trade is less populated areas, don't announce it over .c or #IN and be wary of anyone you don't know well...

Nothing wrong with stealing as it is, high risk for a small reward and every so often if they are smart enough to pull it off or do a good con job and get something of high value, then I say GOOD ON THEM!

You got played. Learn from it!

i dont care about the part where i lost money, money is obtainable, but the time. No one has all day to play UO, and the thing i talked to Discord about was the simplicity of stealing. Heavier objects are more difficult to steal, but lighter objects like a shrunken mustang can be stolen very easily. I know i am at fault for not paying attention of where i was trading, but shouldn't stealing be based on rarity and not weight?

Stealing should be based on weight. The heavier the object, the harder it is to take from your pack. Shrunken rides are relatively heavy, I'm sure the guy who stole it failed before succeeding, and he's actually really lucky that he wasn't flagged criminal for it, since that usually happens.
Sounds like this guy thieved you fair and square...
