Nerf Shields?

Hi Everyone,

I am posting this as I have seen several players on this shard complain regarding the amount of damage that shields parry in this PVP system. As it currently stands .. Shields are becoming more and more popular in PVP as they make weapons useless in general.

A solid PVPer .. wearing a shield is literally impossible to kill as long as they have Greater Healing timing. This is a great issue for PVP as there SHOULD be a great use for all weapons when PVPing. These shields are turning the PVP into a defensive heal-fest and is creating long ... boring duels that onlt consist of fs dumping someone with 100 mana (since they don't take weapon damage if they use a shield).

This should definately be looked into and corrected as it is creating frustration and issues for those PVPers that have been playing on THIS very shard since the starting.

Let's here your thoughts ...

Shields parry way too much, and the armor value of shields and some armors are jut ridiculous.

I vote yes nerf them this should for sure be looked into.

We already nerfed shields quite significantly, but I will look into it and if it is a problem we'll do something about it.

Correction I was told only chaos/order/neutral shields were nerfed to make craftable shields have more significance like sapphire deamon etc

That is correct, are you saying people are now PVPing with these?

There was also the blanket nerf that shield AR does not contribute to resisting damage from spells.

No I'm saying the chaos/order shields were the only shields that were nerfed thus being any other shield in PvP heater crafted or the autosupplied ones block and parry far to much.

It's true a high end heater will provide a lot of protection, if it too much we will probably reduce it. However, my primary concern is the state of world PvP and I have not seen anyone actually use any shield with AR above order/chaos (post-nerf) outside. Am I wrong?

As for tournament gear, I prefer not to make PvP changes based only on what affect it will have on the tournament. Ultimately the decision is Taran's but I would never advise making a change to suit a 5 x 5 box as opposed to the outside world - if shields are a problem in tournaments then we'll just change what the autosupply provides to something less good.

Well no it's the general principle even in duel arenas shields are being used and you can win more from duel arenas then in a tour easily depending on whose dueling for 10k or 20k etc

Okay, thank you for pointing that out. I will take some time to watch some duels at some stage soon and I'll talk about it with Taran. You'll have to be patient though, we have a huge influx of PvP suggestions/ideas and the system is definitely in need of improvement, but we fully intend to take our time and get it right rather than rush in with too many changes at once, and I'm not promising any specific changes until I've seen and/or tested it myself.

Not a problem, thanks for taking the time. There's also issues with weapon min max damage pretty much all weapons and weapon speeds/hit chances as well, but I guess we can fix them one at a time currently focused on shields atm.

The weapon one is already on our radar and we've been testing solutions on the test server. Again no promises of anything specific but something should be changed soon in that regard (which may also in turn affect what we do or do not do with shields).
