Basic Transportation Provided by Golden Casino
#1

**Merged other thread with this one, changed time-stamp on this post to be the top one**

Please hold voting until you're sure of your decision as we can't clear the poll or change your vote.

The concept is this: Add a gate to the Golden Casino so that when you step on it, it gives you a menu to select where you want to go. Only very basic locations will be included. 50-100 gold per trip will be charged.

An NPC will be added to those locations, "{Name} the Golden Casino Barker". You can speak to these NPCs to go to the Golden Casino for free.

Point/Counterpoint
Point: This will make rune libraries useless.

Counterpoint:
There is plenty of room for people to make rune libraries to other places aside from these simple places.
  • Hunting Spots
  • Resources
  • Resource areas (mining/lumberjacking)
  • Quest Areas
  • Graveyards
  • Misc points of interest
  • Islands you need a boat to get to
  • Specific store types for buying resources (mage, tailors, alchemists, fletchers, etc)

Point: This will encourage people to stand around the casino waiting for someone to step on the gate so they can kill them.

Counterpoint: There is only a single gate that you step on, then you can choose from any town or dungeon. The chances of picking the exact same thing as your prospective target is very small and not worth it.

Pointt: We already have recall and runes, this will just make people lazy.

Counterpoing: This does not get rid of the usefulness of runes or recalling. The charge will be more than you'd pay for normal recall reagents and provides a way for people to get to new cities or dungeons without having to run or take a boat there manually, or begging for a rune. This is especially good for new players. Also, since only basic places are added, it's not even close to a comprehensive library and people can still build their own.

Hi Everyone,

I have a suggestion .. as I see that the Casinpo is the place that Reds and Blues "Mingle" .. I say that we perhaps add a few Pads in the Casino ..

Example - Blue Pads like Minoc, Yew and Moonglow Pads
and Red Pads in the Casino for classic Gank cities like Occlo, Serps, Buccs. This will encourage Reds to PVP eachother and actually have access to these othre cities if they were to get ganked in order to restock .. ect.

Also, When dead, I think that walking into the Casino as a Ghost whether you are a criminal or not should ressurect you.

Just some thoughts to spice up Ganking ..

Let me know what you think. Please do not Flame .. just honest opinion.

Thank you.

To be fair, the first post was a good suggestion. One that I've brought up before that we were debating about how to implement.

The way I have planned doesn't have the pads with red/blue towns, but is a moongate that you can step onto, then select the town you want to go to for a fee. (say 50g)

That way, there are no pads to sit by and wait for people to step on like in the old pits and encourages people not to AFK by them. I think I'll go add that shortly, actually.

Thank you Eru. I applaud you on your fantastic Forum Moderation first off!

I really like your idea with the "Fees." This will ensure that players still need to hunt and participate in world events.

What about ressurection though?! When a player gets ganked in a 10 vs 3 Gank .. you can not res because you will get res-killed over and over .. I'm thinking sotr of Like the old Pits .. we can get ressed when we walk into the Casino whether we are Criminals or not. What do you think?!

I had something planned like that originally. I found the original post where I mentioned this: http://in-uo.net/forums/showthread.php?7...#post76201

I can work on adding those to dungeons, etc. I'd like to make them more than just a pad on the ground though, maybe a guy that can take you there kindof like the way the portal mage does for the mercenary camp.

What's wrong with runes? Heaps of people use Soma's runebooks anyway, giving you at least a bit of foreknowledge of where people are going to be.
#7

Eru I hope your joking.

The way I have it set now is that you can get to any town or any of the main dungeons in .go to help new players get to basic travel spots.

There is plenty of room for people to make rune libraries to other places aside from these simple places.

  • Resources
  • Resource areas (mining/lumberjacking)
  • Quest Areas

The idea got some positive feedback when I first posted it months ago. I'm not sure why it's a bad thing now, though I have my suspicions. This just reminded me that I was intending to add it.

Not much negative feed back that i see. I don't see a problem with it myself =p
The only thing I may not like is that people might use the gate instead of running outside for me to kill, but that doesn't change much really because they could just recall before anyway Big Grin

Is this only for young players? I can see value in having that available to new players.

Otherwise I think it's pretty bad for obvious reasons.

I agree that could happen but then again as the shard is growing with 200+ players I don't think well have a problem with ganking or pvping at that point Smile There's also players who've been rping/pvming who will eventually want to try it out and might like it.

I don't get it. We have recall and runes. How much easier can it get? There's even a bank in the casino to access runebooks. I've always loathed the idea of assisted travel and feel it cheapens shards.

^ that I can agree with. For young players it seems useful.
