Bless/Curse
#1

Hey I'd just like to post about something Gang and I noticed recently... We don't mean to heighten your work load, and as always this is something we should try and ALL agree on.

Bless and Curse seem to be pretty well balanced at first glance, but we think the way stat altering spells could use a change/tweak.
As of now, the spells all "cancel" each other.

Is it possible to make it so that they're effects aren't cancelled by eachother? For example, now, if you have bless on the opponent curses once to cancel it and again to put you to 89. We suggest that if you have bless on, and you get cursed, you go back to 100 until your bless wears off. If you are cursed without bless on, go to 89 and bless brings you to 100. That's pretty solid...

Going back and forth bless curse curse bless curse it almost necessary for the +22 stat advantage you get.
Another way would be to disable curse. I have no problem with that, it would actually completely solve this issue.
A more conservative route would be to possibly reduce the effect of ALL stat +/- to 6 or 7 instead of 11 (based on 100 " " stats)

I like the fact that I can manipulate my opponents stats. Well placed curses and blesses give you a huge advantage but IMO, the advantage is too high as of now. Wachoo think?

edit: Recasting bless or any other stat changing spell should reset the timer, as of now it doesn't (almost positive).

I agree =O

I think the ideal solution would to be to not have it cancel out, but have each one count as a buff. Bless can be on you, and curse can be on you at the same time, leading to effectively no change. Maybe dispel could remove curse since it takes a bit of mana to cast so you might cast it after a fight, but not during one.

Also, I remember on Sphere, you could cast "Bless" and "Curse" on a weapon or armor. So a viking sword would say: "a blessed viking sword" or "a cursed viking sword". There was no effect at all, but I remember some people preferred to wear all blessed or all cursed, so it may be an interesting RP thing to add just for giggles and to be true to sphere. Tongue Or maybe that was a bug that was intentionally removed.

Actually, cursed gear was to raise your stats over 100 ^^. No stat is raising above 100 on sphere, so you'd need to wear cursed gear to do so. Each cursed item would minus all stat of yours by 11. You also wouldn't be able to take it off from yourself. When you try to drag it from paperdoll it'd say "It appears to be cursed". To take it off you had either bless the item or to die... I don't remember what bless alone did though. By logic it should raise your stats as well but i'm not sure it did. Or maybe it did by default but devs of all the shards I played on disabled it right away... Most of servers had these two spells disabled;p

haha i remember the curse armor thing. And yeah it was to raise stats back then over 100, I use to lay down cursed armor in brit, trin, and mt. kendall to some unsuspecting newbie Tongue. Was kind of funny them asking why they cant take it off Tongue

yeah heh ;p Would be cool to have it here, though seeing as cap at each stat is 120 it sounds rather like a very unnecessary scripting work ;p If anything I'd want a newbied longsword instead of katana for picking swordmanship at character creationTongue It was this way on 0.51a, 100%Tongue But anyways, bless/curse effect is still important. And I think Habibi meant exactly what you said Eru, e.g. the spells "cancel" eachother. Means each of spells still would be there but since stat bonus from bless is equal to the curse's minus they'd "cancel" eachother until first of them wouldn't be in effect anymore..

lol kinda gone off topic. I remember it too, but it's useless here. I agree with Eru about Curse/Bless cancelling each other out rather than overriding.

Unfortunately the stat mods are quite complicated to change.

I could fix so if you bless someone with curse on it removes the curse and if you bless again it won't go over 100. But when the curse wears off you don't get higher stats from the bless you casted earlier, you would have to bless yourself again in that case.
That means that if player A casts curse on player B and player B blesses himself, then neither bless or curse won't do anything to player B until the curse wears off.

Resetting the timer when recasting would just be too complicated on top of this and not just worth the time I would have to put into this.

Darn... Possibly disable curse?

I don't like disabling stuff... I'd rather fix it the way I described.

Can't wait to try it Smile
