Mystic's vid made me think
#1

To me, one of the major reasons why the current installment of IN is more impressive and feels more legitimate than previous is because the staff seems more laid back, generally speaking.
What I mean by this is that our staff is willing to work with the players more openly now than before with things like deco and suggestions, etc. On IN:R I got the feeling that the staff members were so focused on making things exactly one way, there was no room for deviation, and on IN:X it seemed everyone from either the XUO side or the IN side were too focused on replicating their own servers.
Now I'm getting that old great and free vibe from the players and the staff, as if this isn't a place where we're locked in to certain styles and ideals, but rather a clean slate to build on top of.

Or maybe I'm full of it? ;p

Well I never played on anything other than IN. I do remember when folks were migrating to the new server and it was hard to get KM or JT to do anything on IN cause they were so busy with the new server. But other than that I don't even remember creating a toon on the new server. So I have no clue how they were, but I can say that this does seem similar to IN original. So in that aspect I'll say Kudo's to the staff in their efforts! Smile

Even tho that I started on IN:X near its end, I can tell you that I just love alot more working here. That vibe that you are talking about...its great! The other day when I was doing the deco inside Lord British Castle with the help of Mystic...it felt great at the end, big nostalgia from me and the others who saw the final work. You guys rock.

Shade and I did a lot of talking about how to make the shard actually enjoyable and draw people in as much as possible and that's one of the things we wanted to go for; players ability to actually affect things in the world outside of just housing and item collecting. I think it's cool how you can watch the geography of the whole server change as more things are added or taken away. For instance, a new pier recently appeared outside Mt. Kendall, and the old church near the bank got taken over by Goblins and now it's a dirty pub instead of a church.

The plan was to keep it as relaxed as possible; we still have rules of course, but we're much more inclined to make allowances with things like rare items, decoration, things you can buy, and skill-gain for non-craft skills. The idea was to put as much fun in as possible and to remove as much of the chore as possible. A good example is the trash can system. Instead of trashing stuff now, you can get silver for junk items. This gets rid of junk items, gives useless items at least *some* use, and lets you hunt for hours on end without having to recall into town to sell stuff. I got Shade to add that custom reward stone script and that has helped out with being able to add custom vendors on-the-fly like I did with the Halloween event's bone vendor.

I've got some more plans to work on, like a "build a quest" thing where I make part of the quest, then it leads to an ending, then I'd add more to it based on how everyone votes to continue. I still need to make more automated quests since we also thought it would be great to always have something going on without having to have staff come and host it. That way there are no 'dry spells' where no active or busy staff means no events.

I'm glad it's appreciated. :3

When i first started here i thought "meh gonna be another one of those RunUO servers but ill check it out anyway" to my surprise things were being modeled with deco after IN1 and thought "hm well i bet the combat system the same as AoS" but then I got to thinking and started testing stuff and found out no it wasn't. When i came to the forums and saw people giving suggestions on how IN1 was like and the staff actually listen (Which KM and Justin Time never did in the past just did there own thing) I have to say I was feeling not only nostalgic but also that this server had opportunity to be what drove people to it long ago. At that point I was hook, the staff actually wanting people to tell them what they remember from IN1 one was something i couldn't turn up. There are still many old IN members out there with really old screen shots then we probably have missed and could turn up at any time to help with look, or even what was on there back then. I remember you had to give a RP story before you were even let in. Just last night i remember float potions if you guys even remember those lol. They did nothing on IN1 but was funny i remember that. I remember the gm cooking reward back then that had a custom cook book of items you could cook, but theres not a script for it for RunUO thats already out there Sad. Not saying i want it or anything lol but little stuff like that can help drive this community to what it once was Smile

Well that def. explains it then Eru, it's definitely a good feel for us =]
Yea exactly Mystic, and in my opinion it's pretty much where it needs to be in my opinion (other than Trinny being the main town Big Grin but that's just for nostalgia). And the things that might not be what we want, or remember, or like are more open to alter and change like you said =] tis a good feeling

Well also a few things about IN1 wasn't that KM & JT didn't want to do stuff, alot of the times the codeing didn't allow for things. But I think they wanted too, and that was the main reason they started working on IN2, was because they could do much more with the scripting. Also the player base was much larger on IN1 prime days and there were a lot of trouble makers as well. This surprisingly does put a damper on wanting to do good things when folks were constantly using bugs and whatnot. As Inanna I would jail folks for bug abuse every night! So just remember this server is striving to have the look and feel of IN1, but I'm sure Taran is not looking to turn one of his GM's into a watchdog. So far I think the staff is doing a fine job and to the players, remember this Is NOT IN1, and not a substitute... it's Imagine Nation!

Does anyone remember the Gauntlet Inanna created in Moonglow??

May have a point there Emerald but when i mean by that there is an actually suggestion section here on the forums where people are free to stated what they wanted to suggest and /or if they remember something that was done in the past which is more open to the public then just closed tot he staff. Back on IN1 there wasn't anything like that and I remember some posts being deleted in the forums over some suggestions for the shard. At least here they would let you know if it was possible or not. here its a more laid back and up for consideration kind of feel on suggestions and I really like that.
I understand that it's something thats there for past related issues but its not only for that but for new ideas as well and many players have done that already there that a lot of players agreed on.

and yeah, i do somewhat Tongue

Yea I agree, I think KM/JT and others wanted to do more, they were simply restricted. It seemed like they did a lot already in terms of really interacting with the players in various ways. I remember in IN:X I'd suggest things and 9 out of 10 times it would get shot down, but i think that was mainly because of the XUO half probably =p

It might have been a little bit of an ego thing and also they were both definitely burned out running the shard (and spending alot of their own money to do it). They were always cool and pleasant to me though, at least after I became a staff member haha.

Other other hand I wrote a lot of the code for IN2 and spent time implementing a ton of crazy ideas that Shinare had that in the end got shot down as well.

You wrote much (if not all?) of the code for IN:R as well Rob, some of the stuff we still use like the GM skill reward system, hehe.

Does anyone know what happened to Shinare? She needs to know Imagine Nation is back up again! Smile

Haha. Yeah I guess I did write a lot of code on that one too. Good to know I was able to do something useful!

I'll have to login and gm something to see my handiwork in action.
